Dear Gaschat users,
We have a wonderful community here. We have posters who are clever, passionate and loyal. We have very intelligent posters and funny posters. We have posters who are happy to put in the work so that others may enjoy the forum more. We have kind posters and generous posters. And every one of you is a Gashead. You should all be proud of this community of ours that you have rebuilt and maintained.
I am proud we have the SC on Gaschat. We have the FFSC here and we have both BEP Bloggers as part of our community. I am proud that BSS chooses to post info and respond to questions here. It's the kind of forum I love and would want to use.
Sadly though, it seems of late that we seem to have stopped showing the respect I would normally have taken for granted from my fellow Gasheads.
I have to say that I have gone from anger to sadness and back many times over the last few days and today enough is enough.
I would like to draw a line in the sand of what should be accepted from all Gaschat users.
Attacking fellow posters. Please, if you disagree with someone break down or counter their argument. Do not personally abuse other users.
WUMs. I'm all for playing devils advocate but it would be nice if this were done to further debate not just to get a reaction. If you do choose to wind others up deliberately don't come crying to the Mods if someone calls you out on it.
Troll threads. They are not funny. By all means be creative when starting threads and ambiguous titles can be amusing but deliberate attempts to wind up and mislead need to stop. I would include malicious posts on Matchday threads in this. People use this forum as a means to stay in touch with what's going on, not to have bogus info because 'its just a joke'.
"It's a forum, I can say what I like" Sorry, no you can't. Just as you can't in any other aspect of your life. Just because you think something that does not mean posting it here is ok. Moderate yourselves. Think about what you have to say and what is the most appropriate way to say it.
Banter. Banter is great but for it to work there has to be complicity with the people on the receiving end. You cannot just abuse someone and then flip it off as just having a laugh. I am happy to post 'abuse' about certain users here because I know them, they are in on the joke. I certainly would not think it ok to abuse anyone and everyone.
Respect one another. Try to understand that we all have different views. There is a chance that your strongly held view may not be shared by others and you may even be wrong.
Mods are posters first, Mods second. If we disagree with you its because our opinion is different. We are not seeking to control the agenda or censor your view. We also make mistakes. We are not above reproach and we must also follow the rules.
If people feel unable to follow these pretty fair and straight forward guidelines then we will have to look at ways of enforcing the rules here. We may get this wrong sometimes but we will try our best. The easiet way to avoid bad modding is to follow the above rules, thereby making us redundant!
I apologize if this post upsets anyone and in all honesty I am really sad that I've felt the need to post it at all. You will also note that I am not naming names here, and I do not want anyone else to. I want you all to look at yourselves, not any other poster.
I trust you will understand where I am coming from and will support YOUR forum.
Take care and kind regards.
Hugo.
