From what I've seen he's a tidy player and can deliver some threatening balls, and has good control. That's always going to be subdued compared to your best when your fitness is below standard. PT has seen enough to introduce him back into the squad and is good enough of a man manager to be handling him in the best way possible. Which isn't necessarily telling him he's overweight and to do something about it. Because for some people that's exactly the sort of thing which will cause them to worsen their situation not improve it. He looks bad today because there's cameras all over the pitch doing close ups, which aren't going to be flattering. He could very well be in much better condition than he was back when he joined us this time last year. As long as he runs for the ball and has a go I'm keen for him to be given a chance and I'm glad PT is giving him that opportunity. It's a big tidy from looking tiby to bossing L1! If somebody doesn't tell Barrett he's ruining any chance of a career by being overweight then that's just what he's going to, he's hardly a 18 year kid just starting out in pro football. If I was given a fresh start by a new manager I'd make damn sure I was 100% fit as I my not get another chance, not sure how he can be fitter than when he joined us when he looks even fatter. It's not as simple as just saying lose weight though. Firstly doing this properly takes time, he's supposed to be an athlete and simply fasting isn't the way to do it as he'd lose all muscle mass he has. Exercise too much and he's then tired and he could end up injuring himself or damaging the muscles which are right for playing football vs going on a bloody long run. Secondly there's the mental health situation - if everyone is getting on his case regards his weight, and he's concerned about his ability to turn it around, he could end up comfort eating or stressing out about it. I don't want to speculate on Barrett as a person himself but this is certainly something that someone in his circumstances could have to battle with. It needs good man management - which is telling him the right things to get his head where it needs to be (which is different person to person) and not simply sticking him with the under 18s and ostracising him.

Anyway, decent showing today against higher class opponents. Got some cash in the bag. We move on to the Pizza trophy. UTG. Long live King Tisdale.

Maybe an unpopular opinion but I've seen little from Barrett so far to suggest he is going to be a good signing.

Did anyone else watch the same game as you because I certainly didn't. Kilgour was excellent today. A, 2 or 3 million transfer move in offing after that game from Alfie. What’s it all about tbone. Not with kilgour's pace. Long way to go before championship ready for me.

Thought Day was great considerating not been with us long, Kilgour and Westbrook were immense, Hanlon good game. Never convinced with Leahy.. his one mistake always leads to a goal. However on the whole, have done ourselves proud, we gave it a go, scored a couple and hold our heads up high. Barrett a concern (fitness wise) What did Hanlan actually do as i thought both our strikers had poor games, if we'd had JCH, or similar, upfront we could have well won today. The fact we've signed Day gives me hope we'll also sign a decent powerful striker. Day New RB Kilgour Ehmer Leahy or new LB(our 5th!) Grant/Ogogo Westbrooke McCormick Oztumer/Nicholson Hanlon New CF Looks a string L1 team to me, although not sure Ozt is that good if he's on decent L1 money. We've still got a load of youngsters who are not really up to L1 football who surely would be better out on loan? I thought Hanlan constantly had people over him, so held up when he could, team with the ball when he could. He didn't have a great deal to go off of. Only my thoughts

I'm 63 yrs of age and would fancy my chance in a 20-30 dash against Calamity Kilgour Did anyone else watch the same game as you because I certainly didn't. Kilgour was excellent today. He got beat for pace by a big powerful and very fast premier league striker on maybe 2 occasions... clearly he’s not good enough.

Garner would have had a field day today with that referee. Their last two goals were both free kicks to us. That said Leahy is really a liability when he has the ball. Strange substitutions again but overall a reasonable performance. Would have taken Upson off and kept Ayunga on. I blame Garner for the full back situation- we have four left backs and defensively there is not a good one between them.

Good performance. The criticism of Barrett is unfair. He is a skillful player with a good football brain and good shot - didn't do anything wrong after he came on, just a pity we couldn't get him into a shooting position. Kilgour was MoM - but I fear he would struggle at a higher level due to his lack of pace. Day looked a much better keeper than JvS and was unlucky to concede 3. McCormick had another very good game - love his energy. I wonder if Rodman is due a start soon - he rarely wastes the ball, gets into good positions and has a decent shot and heading ability. Why's the cricisium of Barrett unfair, if pro players could perform carrying 2 or 3 stones of extra baggage we'd see them week in, week out but we rarely do even at L1/L2 level. Similar things were said about Locks but he seems to cope at Championship level. I sense JVS will be gone in the summer he's clearly not an L1 goalie at present.

Barrett looked like a bloke who had won a competition to play an FA cup game.

Aren't you ignoring the fact he's overweight in the first place? BG clearly told him to lose weight but, if anything, he's put weight on, he's probably got 6 months to save his pro career as I can't see another league club offering him a contract if we release him.

Not at all, these things happen. Signing a player in that condition probably shouldn't have though.

Lee Tomlin hasn't had a bad career. Apart from playing for the sh*t down the road. Mostly played at Championship level throughout his career. He's of similar build to Barrett. Tisdale clearly has faith in him, as he's still being picked in squads.

He only got caught out in the last 20 minutes, do you not think that fatigue played a part after the shift he put in and a bloke off the bench who was like sh** off a shovel!

Read my post. I was suggesting that he has no pace. In fact none of our defenders have any. Thats what its all about.
