A repeat of this would be nice! Where were all the long balls in that game?

They looked defensively dodgy against the posh, and big jonah can play the JCH battering ram role with Brandon feeding off the knock downs. Must keep the same team no tinkering and predict another 3 1 win Performance wise Hanlan would probably be most at threat of being dropped. However, since it’s versus the Gills he should be extra motivated to perform so I’d stick with him. If he doesn’t play well we’ve got Daly to bring on a bit earlier than in the last game.

I watched the Portsmouth post match interview Tuesday & the bloke in charge of them said the Rovers front 2 caused us a lot of problems, so I would leave well alone & see if they can do it again Saturday.

Yeah hanlan hasn’t been great lately but his flick on set up Ayunga for one of his goals and even though not much else came off for him he was a pain for the Pompey defenders. It’s great that we’ve got all three strikers fit again at last.

Probably a lot of his work goes unnoticed by us armchair pundits. A bit like Heskey in some respects - can be a pain in the ass for defenders but his strike partners like his presence and ability to occupy the opposition giving them more space.

Gills are a tough team to beat?
They also have Bonham in goal who is a superb goalie; his only weakness seems to be low shots either side of his legs?
PS JCH likes playing against them?

I like the idea of Ayunga making it physically tough for defenders and Hanlan making it mentally tough with his always trying to spin off them and use his power and pace. If both are fit then I don’t think these sides that have had it easy at the back will look forward to playing us now.

UTG Why didn't we sign Bonham? I remember at the time of his loan a lot of people were saying he would be ideal for us, but Brentford wouldn't let him go. Then he signs for Gillingham!

I’m sure we put an offer in for him but he chose Gillingham instead but doesn’t matter anyway we ended up with the best keeper in the league.

Straightforward and easy to listen to. I like the way he says it’s all about the Gillingham match, preparing for that. Sounds very like DC, easy to understand, loads of common sense and likely to give more confidence imo. UTG! Yeah when he’s not winding me up by passing the buck he is actually kind of engaging to listen to! Complete contrast of styles with PT which is probably neither here nor there for a fan but massively significant for a player. I can imagine they would respond well to his way of communicating after PT.

Apparently he wanted to move closer to family so can’t argue with that! I think we also did try and sign him. He was superb for us and I am sure Gills fans will say the same for him playing for them. Very similar to JCH move but different reasons; JCH did an incredible job for us as well!

Will be interesting to see how Gills prepare for the strikers. Pompey were caught out by the unknown Jonah, Gills will be prepared. Maybe giving their old boy a little more freedom? Would love to see Daly and Hanlon either side of Ayunga in a 3-pronged attack at some point before the end of the season. Maybe for a 6-0 thrashing of Swindon!

Whatever views about recruitment are, whilst he’s acting manager and we’re in a relegation fight I’d rather he gave the messages he’s giving. Put away the smooth-DOF role and take on a more straightforward, even aggressive managers role. We can worry about the niceties of it all once we're safe. Hopefully! UTG!

Interesting comments about our budget! www.kentonline.co.uk/medway/sport/gills-v-bristol-rovers-preview-im-gobsmacked-theyre-in-that-position-242762/Gillingham v Bristol Rovers preview: Assistant boss Paul Raynor surprised how their opponents have struggled Gillingham assistant manager Paul Raynor says he is gobsmacked to see the position weekend visitors Bristol Rovers have got themselves in this season. Rovers spent big in the summer, with signings that included Gillingham pair Brandon Hanlan and Max Ehmer, but the team have struggled on the field, just two points clear of the relegation zone ahead of their trip to Priestfield. Despite the problems and already looking for a third permanent manager of the season, they picked up a shock win on Tuesday, beating promotion-chasing Portsmouth 3-1. Director of football Tommy Widdrington is currently in charge on a caretaker basis and is likely to take the team on Saturday. Raynor said: “They have many strengths and it was a real eye-opener to see the type of contracts they could put on the table for Max and Brandon. We couldn’t compete, we were desperate to keep them, they were fantastic for us, two great lads, great players, brilliant for us. “We would have loved to have kept them but we got blown out of the water with the financial packages that Bristol Rovers put on the table. “They have a strong squad. I am gobsmacked a squad of that standard and that quality are in the position it is at the moment, but Tommy showed with the side that he put out on Tuesday they can certainly put a performance in. They did that against a very good Portsmouth team. “We are very wary of the qualities they have got but I am sure they will be wary of what we have got. We had a good victory at their place earlier in the season and so it’s game on.” The Gills will be hoping to avoid the individual mistakes that proved costly in midweek against Peterborough, letting a 1-0 lead slip and losing 3-1. The visitors were allowed back in with an equalising goal after keeper Jack Bonham failed to hold a shot. Raynor said: “It is about concentration, discipline and game awareness but you don’t think Jack Bonham is going to drop one, he has been fantastic for us, you can only put it down to a lapse of concentration and we get punished for it. “We don’t track a runner for the second goal. It is that defensive awareness and nous to make sure we are more solid out of possession.”
