This Going to Wembley for it (especially todays cash cow Wembley) would almost be an anti climax of how far we have fallen. Play a second string, which should still be pretty decent given the strength of the squad now assembled. Yawn yawn yawn. If we get to Wembley would you actually stay at home? No, but it wouldn't mean anything like as much as a football league playoff final. Prize is not worth upsetting our league status, IMO.

The FA Trophy and regaining our league status are not mutually exclusive events.
We can do both and a few wins in the FA Trophy doesn't mean our league position will be screwed up.

First round proper is December 13. Not sure how I feel about this. In some respects it's about getting a winning mentality, in others it means little and as I've heard from NL clubs fans, it can cause fixture backlogs that can really affect seasons. Hope we draw low ranked teams early, could be a good chance for fringe players like Gos, Leadbitter etc. don;t think it would this season though. 1st and 2nd rounds are on scheduled saturdays. we arent in the FA cup It's November and we've already played 23 games (1/2 the games) Pitches have been exc and are still excellent. Of course we could now have a month of shocking weather but looking good so far. I would actually like us to win the FA Trophy Cambridge Utd played 60 games last season and still got promoted and won FA Trophy

Play a second string, which should still be pretty decent given the strength of the squad now assembled. If ever I heard a " we are too big for this place" statement - this is it. Its not as if we are so blessed with trophies. We are a non league club and whilst we all hope it will only be for 1 year - lets make sure that we are the best non league club there is. Browner and Parkes have proudly won England C caps - are we saying that actually they should hide them as these are non league trophies?. The reality is that both players dont sem to think so as they have improved dramatically in form since winning those caps and I feel that it is because they each got a massive boost to their confidence in training at the best facility and playing at a great venue. We are where we are and we should make the most of every opportunity it puts our way . one of the best posts for a long time. our trophy cabinet is almost bare. unless the bertie big bollocks trophy counts?

Barnet away and a defeat to the highest ranked team. No massive overreaction then concentrate on the league.

Barnet away please so we lose Yeah I'm with you there, the last thing we want is loads of crappy cup games in the winter where we will no doubt pick up injuries and suspensions and postponements. We're out if the league cup were out of the Fa cup they're the two that matter lets concentrate on getting back in the football league.

Lets just forfeit,we don't need this,I for one would be embarrassed to have this cup on our CV. Would that be because it isnt prestigeous and glorified enough to go in your trophy cabinet along with all your other illustrious Cups you have won ? like the Waltney Cup or the Glouceseter cup ? as other than that .. you aint really won anything

If nothing else it will give the likes of Leadbitter some game time, anyway how many extra games does it take to get to the final 4 games? The first one (&second?) is on a free Saturday and probably against a weaker team so that'll be more like a competitive training session. The £5K+ winning money and attendance income could come in handy.

I gotta say I don't really understand being embarrassed to win a trophy. We're down here now, we may as well make the most of it and win a trophy or two whilst we're down here.
Promotion and an FA Trophy will do me just fine. There is no reason we can't do both as we have the squad now.

The thing is that we are just one of a handful of non league teams playing full time. The rest of the participants are having to do full time jobs of work as well as complete the league fixtures. Is it really too much to play and try and win an extra 4 games in a season?
Before the inset of foreign managers no-one used to rest players. As Kevin Keegan pointed out in a recent speech - when he won the league with Liverpool over 6 of their team played more than 70 games that season.

Don't forget the cups take priority over league matches with regards to fixtures. Other clubs have warned us about Sat Tues Thurs Sat fixture pile ups.
Play a complete second string. Get them a match or two and get knocked out early, let the other teams play 4 matches in 8 days.
