Tin pot cup or not, I'd like to see us put the best team out with the intention of winning every round possible. About time we had a bit of Cup success no matter what the reward.

Don't forget the cups take priority over league matches with regards to fixtures. Other clubs have warned us about Sat Tues Thurs Sat fixture pile ups. Play a complete second string. Get them a match or two and get knocked out early, let the other teams play 4 matches in 8 days. That's rubbish, league has done the fixtures with this in mind now. Have you looked at the fixtures? Tuesday is our last midweek game! Apart from bank holidays we are only playing on Saturdays. So we have about 18 free mid weeks. Plus the first two rounds are on Saturdays without a midweek game after. Players need games, if we rest first teamers, they won't play for 14 days which can be worse than not playing. Don't forget as well if the team we are due to play are still in it, the game will have to be rearranged anyway and again, we would have 2 weeks without a game. Is that what we really want? Can expect 4 or 5 games off due to weather maybe less, if we got to the final that would mean another 5 games to be rearranged. So we might have to play Saturday Tuesday like we have been anyway up to 10 times. But we would still have lots of weeks with no mid week games. Last two times we have promotion we got to the final of the football league trophy, it didn't harm us then! Winning brings confidence.

Only teams it will effect are teams like Eastleigh who are games behind already and there game next weekend is off because of the Fa cup. A lot of games are off next weekend, so we will be ahead of a lot of teams anyway. We play 3 times before Grimsby play again in the league.

I'd love us to win the FA Trophy. It's a genuine, national cup, with a Wembley final. If we get there, who's really not going to want to see us win that? IMO it would be more of an achievement than the Watney Cup, which was basically a pre-season warm-up for the likes of Man U to work off their Majorca pot-bellies. There were only 3 games. Winning the JPT would have far eclipsed that IMO and I wouldn't mind the FA Trophy at all, ta muchly.
An embarrassment on our cv? Let's look ahead to a glorious future, in which Rovers play in front of 20,000 at the UWE, riding high in the Championship. Who among us then would look back at a sunny day at Wembley in 2015, with the likes of Sinclair, Mansell etc parading the trophy, and think, "Ooh, I wish I hadn't been there and we hadn't won that."?
Unless the future is a lot more glorious than the past, we aren't going to win the FA Cup or the League Cup. The Trophies are for people like us. Like the man said, the game is about glory. For me, that means winning cups as much as promotions.
Apologies to those who remember the Watney Cup win fondly. I' m sure it was great at the time.

Pretty much been convinced by the responses in this thread. The funds alone make it worth a shot with a reduced team to give them experience. Hate to say it but Mildenhall is 35 and not going to be with us forever, Preston needs some games. Not to mention Ward-Baptiste, Thomas and the rest of the young lads, could be a real opportunity for them. And really, if there is no fixture clashing as indicated above, there's no reason not to.

Nnnnooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!! Best team! Let's go out and win the bloody thing! UP the Gas, not MAYBE the Gas. Here's a thought: back in 2007, I'd guess that not a single Gashead would have preferred to win the JPT final rather than the playoff final. Quite right, of course. But had it happened the other way around - winning the Football League Trophy and missing promotion - we'd now have a genuine trophy on the honours board and we'd be no worse off in the league. The value of trophies is that the glory lasts forever. Promotion only lasts until the next relegation.

If we gain financially from an FA Trophy run then really we would be mad not to go for it. But I would feel incredibly bitter if we lost a key player during one of the games. The league must take priority.

Which promotion would prove anyway.

Somebody getting injured is part and parcel of football whatever game you play in whether it be a cup or the league. Winning is part of football and we should play the best team we can put out. Its ok to play a couple of players who haven't been playing but have the others on the bench a bit like yesterday. Nothing better than going up as Champions and Trophy Winner!!

It just proves you've won a cup, which we never have. Surely we want to win cups?

Anyway... the FA Trophy will add an extra dimension to the season, however differently we all look at it. I'm looking forward to the draw.
It's all part of life's rich tapestry!

It's a tricky one, I can see what others are saying about the league taking priority. And yes think the main focus is to get out of this league.
But we are a professional football club at the end of the day. If the incentive is to win a national cup with a trip to Wembley then we need to take this as serious as they come.
If we were still in the FA Cup I'm sure we would all be dreaming of a fairy tale run in that. So why make this any different, lets actually go for it and instead of dreaming of a Wembley day out there could actually be a fantastic day in North London out for us in March!
