It matters. For everyone. I believe there is a young club south of the river who have lost the last SEVEN at home, scoring ONCE.

Its interesting.
I think some players would have thrived off of fans being present.
Nicholson, McCormick, Walker for example.
There are others who I think are probably glad they havent got the boo boys on their back.
Hanlan, Grant and Harries spring to mind.
Generally I would say away teams are probably more comfortable and Refs less influenced by intimidating home crowds overall.

I would have like to have thought so, but ultimately I expect all the fans of clubs in the relegation zone would be saying that having fans would have bolstered their chances of being in a position higher than they are, so I guess it’s just something we’ll never know.
Let’s be honest, we’d still have a lack of goals and make the same defensive errors with or without fans in the ground. The squad itself is just not very good.
We haven’t exactly strayed from the norm of having better home form and worse away form this season either.

I actually think it's affected alot of clubs, surely liverpool wouldn't have lost about six games at home in a row with the kop there, and I don't think even the Ted's would lose seven even with their fickle fans.

Our compact ground with the fans close to the action will have affected different players for different reasons. Youth players would have had a perfect opportunity to be blooded into 1st team football with less pressure. Think we would have had way more referee decisions going our way. Many opposition players and managers have said the Mem is an intimidating place to go, not all other grounds are like that given most are new builds with fans further from the pitch or have less fans . At the moment its competitive games in a reserve game atmosphere

Yes, I think a crowd have helped us gain a few extra points at home. As for away result well they could not be much worse even with a crowd. That said, it could have all turned rather nasty with a crowd at the Mem.

We’ve spent a shed load on improving the Mem pitch and we’ve gotten worse results on it than before. We’ve spent a shed load on a training ground and gotten worse results than before. We’ve not had Gasheads in the stadium home or away and we’re getting relegated. Next time we spend money let’s spend it on making a stadium we’re proud to play in and fans to go to , more Gasheads cheering on the team and encouraging them might well have more of an affect than pitches or training grounds !

To me, this season in my eyes has just been written off from my football following history. If we go down in essence it won’t really matter until I’m back attending matches

Hanlan showed his potential in the early part of the season and Is now playing with an injury and giving his all. Grant would probably have been player of the season had he not got this recent injury and Harries in his first full season has been far from awful and one of the only defenders in the squad not to have made the ridiculous mistakes that have cost us so many goals this season.

Haha I definitely don’t doubt it, just pointing out that they are, as you say, twats, with little knowledge of the game. If they really have to boo I’d prefer they save it for the likes of Upson who is an extremely well paid senior pro spending 90 mins passing the ball backwards and taking no responsibility for trying to get us going.

I actually think it would have made no difference
Our problem is partly mental strength and having supporters baying for this lots blood would add to the problem, not solve it.

The team have defenitly miss our away support as we always travel in numbers and are very vocal at away games

I almost look on it as a blessing in disguise for us fans not having to put up with travelling miles to watch the rubbish that has been dished up but yes I think it has cost a club like ours pointsin that the crowds are generally of a reasonably large size and passionate. Even watching the game on TV is so different without a crowd - its false and has totally proved that Football is a crowd sport and without it I think it is very questionable how long you would keep watching it.

Agree with you Steve. I am currently watching games knowing, or at least hoping, the lack of fans is only temporary. Would I persist if it became permanent? Probably not.

Anyway at the end of games fans would certainly boo them and also shout abuse at refs, it's all part and parcel of attending games!
