Jock was the first for me. I think since then we had David Pritchard, Ronnie Mauge, and Marcus Bignott who as a unit were nicknamed “The Dogs” if I remember correctly? Same squad had Mark Foran that was happy to stick a header on anything. Andy Rammell was another that didn’t shy away from a tackle. I absolutely would place Aarron Lescott in that category. Always the first in when there was a flare up. Last one that I remember being coming in and being a hard bastard was when we took Jean-Paul Kalala from Yeovil. My favourite was probably Aarron Lescott, was baffled by the decision to release him and also the one releasing Foran and Che Wilson at the time and still annoys me that we did so now! 🤣 Mark Foran should never of been released, he was underrated. Same as Che Wilson - always rated him

I’ve been thinking about this all evening while cooking Sunday Dinner, Jones Twentyman and Alexander, three genuine hard men on the pitch, with maybe Maybe Mauge and Elliott from more recent times, thrown in from later years. Only views from times I’ve watched Rovers.

From the teams I saw Frankie Prince and Alex Munro’s were the two hardest. The few battles he had with Gerry Gow still stand out, both hard men. I didn’t see as much of the Twerton era so I don’t know those late 80s and early 90s teams as well. If I was going for a third I might choose big Jim Eadie. Sometimes when he went out to collect a cross or a through ball he’d take everyone in his wake, never afraid to go for a cross, unlike keepers today. And of course as was said last night on the programme, we won’t see their like again, they’d never last, football has changed so much. UTG!

Barton gets a mention in the program but not as a hard man but as a “nasty” player ! Surprised no one has mentioned this before ? Then again it portrays him in a bad way
