I think people are being harsh on Hanlan. I think he could do well in L2. He had spells last season where he was our best player, admittedly in the first half of the season, not the end. I think he’s got a lot of good attributes but he seems to be missing the most important one you need as a striker..... that split second bit of composure you need as you line up a shot. I could see him doing better in a 4-3-3 and playing out wide cutting in but wouldn’t play him as the focal point. He's missing almost EVERYTHING you need as a striker. Can't finish Can't control a ball Can't head Shocking player.

He’s pretty mobile , can run at players and urmmm ... He’s poor playing as the main striker when the ball is played into him as like you say his first touch is poor and he can’t seem to retain the ball or hold off the centre back. Out wide he’ll likely get more space and the fullbacks won’t be as physically strong .

Roverdrive, Very harsh=to say he couldn't finish how would you describe the goals he did score in the first half of the season? .I would describe most as very good goals but created by good through balls which we no longer saw created in the second half of the season particularly when Nicholson was forced out by injury.

You're just becoming a forum WUM like MrBone, I'd take Hanlan from the first half of the season any day over Nichols, and even he managed to score 15 goals in L2.

Having an opinion doesn't make me a WUM. IMO he is utterly useless - unless he's on peanuts we'd be FAR better off recruiting someone else - even Nichols would be an improvement; his all round game offers more than Hanlan's ever will. And Nichols 15 goals is just under 50% more than Hanlan has ever scored in a season.

I can only think of one good finish (which if he hit another 50 times he'd probably hit row Z every time). Not a natural goalscorer and can't see that ever changing - he's just a very, very poor player technically.

He's another Blissett mk2. Simply doesn't have a goalscoring instinct, doesn't provide assists (unlike Nichols who at least helped bring others in to the game), can't hold the ball up (because he can't even control it). I mean, don't get me wrong - if he's on peanuts then there's no harm in having him as a very, very, very, very last resort. But if he's on anything from squad average to third quarter percentile in terms of wages, I'd be looking to offload on a free in a heartbeat.

It seems to me that successive managers didn't really know where best to play him and then to make things worse played him when injured and lacking in confidence.
I think it was Starnes that said our player recruitment lacked the in depth review/knowledge of players, I think our management recruitment was equally as bad.

It doesn't seem that long ago that JB was full of praise for him.. However it was probably done as a morale boost for the player rather than a true discription of his ability..

20+ goal strikers like finding gold every club wants one but not every club will get one . Can JB get us in one ?

Unless Hanlan is on about 500 quid a week I'd get rid ASAP. 50 quid a week is too much £2.5K according to salary sport. Zain Walker is on £500

£2.5K according to salary sport. Zain Walker is on £500 Salary Sport is nonsense. It amazes me how these websites are allowed to be out there. Making up random salaries for players and publishing it online doesn't seem right to me?
