Oh Jesus - who gives a sh** what he has to say. this the same togetherness that saw him down tools when Dave Penney took over Or the togetherness (me me me) when he whined about being frozen out by Coughlan, didn’t see many other players at the time or since say they backed his tantrum K N O B T O S A

He came back to us , his boyhood club when we were pushing for a play off spot in the conference, not quite clicking and were probably going to make the play offs at best or most likely just miss out. We were just missing that bit of quality and creativity that every club needs to be a good side at any level and we were in our lowest point in the clubs history. He Was an absolute revelation in that season playing outstanding football and helping us to the play off finals scoring the winner in the semi final to get us to Wembley and basically bossing the midfield in pretty much every game after he joined that season. The following year he had probably his best season in the quarters as he linked so well with olly Clarke , Taylor etc ,setting lee brown off down the wing , switching the play tearing every team he came up against with his vision and awareness and played as big a part in that second successive promotion as any other Rovers Player top scorer Matty Taylor included ( I still don’t know why the sh** are so smug about Taylor we got him for nothing he was constantly our top scorer helped us to back to back promotions where as they wasted an absolute fortune on him and he did bugger all !) But there you go - ,some people are deluded when they’ve got their own agenda The thing I liked about lines so much in his second spell was that he got what it meant to be a Rovers player and he got what it meant to be a midfielder not just a playmaker , he wasn’t the fancy playmaker who shirked tackles and was only interested in playing Hollywood balls anymore. DC wouldn’t have picked him if that had been the case, we wouldn’t have won those back to back promotions if that had been the case. Ok he still wasn’t a natural ball winner but he gave it his all and started to win the odd tackle here and there , got sent off a couple of times for timing them wrong , got slaughtered in here for it by the same people who had complained previously about him not getting stuck in / not being a more complete midfielder. Chris lines is a Bristol Rovers legend , he won 3 promotions the only player to do that and came back to his boyhood club a different and much better overall player than when he left and helped bring us up from the ashes of conference football and was still one of the best footballers in league 1 for a season after he’d done what he came back to do. I supported Rovers home and away through all the times I’ve just mentioned and I think it’s a fair reflection of his time with the club.

Absolute tosh For such a legend (and I put this back to you to justify) can you name three games when he was standout over any player. Three games out of hundreds. Even in our two promotion seasons he wasn’t standout in midfield. People count the promotion in 2007 when he was a bench warmer and contribute little in the next season either.

I can name loads , basically he was the best playmaker on the field consistently for both of our promotion seasons and in many games in league 1 under DC. That’s around a 100 games for a start.

Alright, I’ll take the bait Off the top of my head, only during his second spell: Both legs in the play offs against FGR, ran the show. Oxford home two years running, he ran the show Away to York, ran the show. Away to Notts County, ran the show I’m sure there are lots of others too. Would I have him back now? No, but at that time he was a class above most midfielders in the divisions we were playing in.

To say Lines made the difference between us getting out of the conference or not is also without foundation or backed up statistically In our first season back in L1 he was bloody dreadful as was he the season we went down. In the main Chris Lines was outmuscled and out thought by the opposition midfield every week. For every good game he had he disappeared for 85mins in four others Yes he scored against FGR. We won the semi final easily We have had far better midfielders prior to Lines, during Lines era, and since he came back. He hadn’t been a decent player for the Gas for years and Coughlan was conned by the ‘he’s one of our own’ These are the same fans who thought Byron Anthony was a decent defender and Andy Williams a striker

The guy played his dream playing for his boyhood club. On Byron Anthony ,He’s far better than anything we have had at centre half this season.

I used to really dislike Lines and thought he was a total dosser of a player. That was until I watched Zain Westbrooke, who makes Lines in comparison, look like Stuart Sinclair.
Obviously the Campbell crew downing tools in 2011 isn't a great period to look back on and tarnished much of Lines' credibility as a Gashead; it really pales into insignificance compared to what has happened here since Coughlan was let go. UTG
