Brring Brrring “Yes?” “Can I speak to James Bracey please?” “He’s just gone into bat for England!” “Oh, I’ll hang on then” Now now old chap 😂 He supports the gas so he’s got a sense of humour already. It’s better for him to laugh about it and get it out of his system than to dwell upon it .

Yes good point but I do worry for him as he will probably be binned for the next test, what’s happening with Buttler? I’m sure he’ll be back if fit and that’s a shame for James.

Bracey looks out of his depth at this level unfortunately.

He wasn’t ever expecting to make his debut as a wicket keeper batsman and but for the decision not to call up the IPL twosome Buttler and Bairstow and the subsequent freak injury to Foakes he probably would not have made his debut in this series but again be the spare batsman in the bubble. In some ways it has worked against him because in three innings England have collapsed each time so he’s been coming in as the last recognised batsman with England five down three times and the extra pressure told. Somehow if he’d been making his debut batting in the top three with a different character donning the gloves at 7 I think he would have performed much better with the bat than he has. Yes I think they will drop him for the next test, however I think he’s still the next cab off the rank when the selectors get tired of the technical failings of the top order batters that are not keeping Root company often enough.

I feel very sorry for James B. This season he has played really well for Gloucestershire and when I watched him for a couple of sessions on You Tube in the Somerset match he batted very well and he managed to repel all the stuff our fast bowlers threw at him. He actually won the game for Gloucestershire. He is becoming a very good county cricketer. Last year, 2020, was a waste of time for him, he was in the bubble of about 22 England cricketers and player but played no meaningful, cricket and in 2019 he helped Gloucestershire get promotion from Division 2. But he has played about 4/5 County matches this season and has played no top league County Cricket in League 1 so he needs to grow a lot more. He needs to have 2/3 seasons of scoring loads of runs at the top level of County Cricket, just like Craig Overton and Jack Leach have done. (And they don’t even get picked so I won’t start that one!). With that he’ll be a much better cricketer ready to cement his place. It’s not his fault that he was put in this position but he needs a lot more experience imo. He’ll come good but he needs more experience and in an England team everyone’s looking after themselves and are not concerned at anyone else. Good luck James. Go back to Gloucestershire get loads of runs and make yourself an obvious pick. UTG!

Well said Wareham, Hope James can quickly regain his confidence with Glos, New Zealand outplayed England almost every step of the series and deserved there victory.

Bracey looks out of his depth at this level unfortunately. You’re probably right pirate but his experience is in Division 2 mainly pre-2020 and then 2020 was a wasted year for him, not his fault. He started this season very well and gets promoted far too early, again not his fault but the selectors and Silverwood have mis-managed him imo. A couple of years batting in matches at the highest county level will make him far more prepared imo. It’s only this year that he’s faced the best County attacks even though it’s not strictly Division 1. UTG!
