An absolutely appalling statement. The club need to retract this statement. How can a so called community club use the wording they have? I'm so angry at the leadership at our club, how can they be so insensitive to people that are currently experiencing domestic abuse. Never felt so distant from my club.

Gasheads Against Domestic Violence
I've set up a fundraiser for Refuge here, this isn't siding with any side but is a solidarity campaign to show Gasheads are against domestic violence. Every pound helps.

UTG Amazing response Chewie and I see one AFC Wimbledon fan has donated £100. Great to see supporters sending out the correct message.

15:12 and still the statement is on the club website. Can only conclude that the board is totally incompetent.

Absolutely awful from the football club. Domestic violence strikes a chord with a lot of people and it is a very delicate subject. The statement is an utter disgrace.

To quote the defence's summation that this crime is "victimless" is absolutely unforgiveable. They knew exactly what they were doing when they sent that message and its connotations.
To say I am utterly ashamed and embarrassed by the way the club has handled this would be a gross understatement, I no longer live locally but again purchased a season ticket to support the club in my own little way post-pandemic. I have asked for a refund, as the club I love and feel represents me would never in a million years make that statement.
I bet the Gas Girls reading that and seeing the word "victimless" felt sick to their stomachs, and my heart absolutely breaks for them.

Thing is even if they do retract or alter their statement now, it's too late. The damage is already done.
Absolutely incompetent no hopers. Total embarrassment.

I really feel for you I drive from Dorset and am seriously wondering if the love and passion is draining away now. Have found other things to do with my children on a Saturday. My son has started fishing. Can’t quite believe what has become of the club over the last few years. Many I’m sure feel the same.

UTG This is fantastic. Make sure when the fundraiser ends you present Refuge with a big cheque on the pitch at halftime. I'm sure the club will be more than accommodating!!!

As I said earlier, it is quite bizarre that the club felt the need to add that 'victimless' bit to the sentence saying they would not comment further. It is crass, insensitive, insulting, upsetting and completely unnecessary - and not in the character of the club I thought we were, or that frankly I want to be associated with. A couple of hours ago I sent the club a 'contact us' comment to ask them to remove that section. They really are letting us and themselves down massively.

We have an incompetent board, so amateurish and seriously out of its depth to not realise the damage it has done by putting out a rushed, inaccurate and dreadfully-worded statement. Did no-one think to run it past a lawyer and PR specialist? Who was thinking about the consequences?
I was planning to go to Mansfield. No chance now. Will work out the total cost for the Mansfield day (ticket, travel etc) and donate to Refuge (Gasheads Against Domestic Violence).

In the original exchange with Tilly, Jocks post was quoted not mine. In any event it doesnt matter. I was being deliberately provocative to challenge priorities when children are involved. I was a little disappointed with the patronising use of "poor dear" though.😉But we digress, the statement put out by the club is a disgrace. By suggesting this is a "victimless" charge, a statement made quite deliberately or in stunning ignorance, has sent a terrible message to our younger fans. Sorry, was that me? My post was meant as a bit of light relief, certainly not as a dig at you. Tilly I smiled. Its fine. Much larger issues at hand here.

If he’s found guilty it will be the end of his managerial career. I'm sure that, at the very least, he could get a job managing a team abroad. Football can be a very shallow business at times. Probably. Doha FC springs to mind. They dont recognise domestic violence in Qatar, in fact they barely recognise women (in public)

Club President Wael Al Qadi has today penned an open letter to supporters...
Dear Gasheads,
I have been here with you now for nearly five and a half years. I hope that through that time you have seen and felt my passion for this club, my openness with supporters and my understanding of the emotions that you feel on a day-to-day basis.
We have a diverse fanbase, as was celebrated in our recent kit launch campaign and all supporters are welcome at The Mem to enjoy watching our club together.
However, the past four days have been tough for us all and I have seen first-hand that there is division within the fanbase which is not what we want heading into a new season.
Firstly, I think it is really important to confirm that as a club we stand firmly against any form of violence. Any individual that is found guilty of any such offences will be dismissed immediately. I understand the concerns expressed by a number of you. However, in line with the basic principles of British law, it is my view that you are innocent until proven guilty.
I have seen and understand the response to the statement that was released last night. Given that this is a legal matter, what we can and can’t say as a club is heavily restricted. That said, I think it is important that some context is given to the comment regarding victimless crimes as I know that has caused some distress. The phrase is a legal term referring to cases in which the victim is either unknown or has not made a complaint/engaged with the police enquiries. We in no way meant to belittle charges of domestic abuse.
I know that this may have been misinterpreted in the statement last night and I wholeheartedly apologise to anyone that was offended.
As has been well publicised we are partners with the team at HerGameToo and continue to play an active role in supporting that initiative. Furthermore, before we were aware of this issue we agreed last week to support a Domestic Violence campaign which we will continue to do heading into the new season. In addition, in 2018 we partnered with the Southmead Project who provide free counselling and support for survivors of abuse and addiction across Bristol and surrounding areas. All of these causes are at the heart of our football club and we will continue to do all we can to support those in need.
This period will have undoubtedly strained relationships, however, I hope that we can retain your trust and confidence as we look to continue to build the club and support our wider community.
I hope that you can all join me in getting behind the team this season, we need your support now more than ever.
UTG
Wael

The thing I took from this is that the club was apparently unaware of the charge until the weekend.

So Wael is saying they were not aware of this until a few days ago? Or am I misreading that?
