Thanks Steve, as more of us get older and can't take the winter weather, you give us a chance to see a sensible look at where the team is at this point, I, like others look forward to seeing the report and just hope that you are able to continue with them. Some on these boards seem to have the 'black cloud' on them , this may be brought on by themselves or maybe things are not so good for them at the moment. Lets all pull in the same direction and get the boys over the line and up ! UTG.

Steve. I too enjoy reading your assessment of games and like you I go to all of them.
But I am sometimes amazed with some individual scores.
Browner I thought was awful yesterday. I don't recall one decent cross in the game, nearly all of them hit the first defender as usual, and his general passing (as well as the rest of the team) was dreadful.
Gosling I'm afraid is not up to it. When he comes on it's almost like we have had a player sent off.
Our biggest problem is how easily we give away possession. It really is poor and was evident again yesterday. What worries me, is that since the cold weather arrived our passing seems to have declined to an alarming extent. I hope it's just coincidence and not a portent of things to come.
Tactically, it seems to me that while DC says he wants to win all games, we are sent out first and foremost to make sure we don't lose. Whilst that is not necessarily a bad thing, if we want automatic promotion, we have to be far more adventurous. If Barnet had been there yesterday they would have really gone for them as it was obvious that carried little threat up front.
All these draws could even cost us a playoff spot. And as you rightly say, all the changes don't necessarily help, but even now we don't look particularly threatening up front for long periods.

The latter. I always look forward to reading his reports,he is a proper supporter.Unlike myself, a season ticket holder of many years, that can only attend home matches.

Thanks for you report, again a top class read, I can not get to away games and your reports are worth waiting for. The game is all about opinions, dont let others with different opinions drag you down, keep going

We're second in the league for Fu<Ks sake ! I guess there will always be moaners. Yeah there are some people on here who I feel like myself are realistic in their opinion (you likewise). However there are some people (won't mention names) who I categorise into fans who are too negative/overly positive. There are even some on here who I think have never written one positive post on here.

Thanks for the report Steve, an enjoyable read. It's always interesting to read the comments from others who were at the game, that's what makes a good thread.
That's not a dig at those who weren't there (like myself)

I am no more a "proper" supporter than any other Gashead. I do it because I enjoy it and am in the lucky (or unlucky as some may suggest) position of being able to afford both the time and the money to go,as well as the health and as I don't drive,be friends with a person who does drive and who attends every game. I apologised to Tbone for two reasons 1) because I should not have named him in my thread and 2) Because I should have sat down and counted to 10 BEFORE I posted and then just got on with my report!! However many matches people attend the fact they come on here makes them a Gashead, same as anyone who has chosen their allegiance to the Gas. As regards markings I can only mark as I see it and there are going to be most matches where individual marks are different to others for certain players maybe even for the team as some can accept that a performance may be below par but look at the positive side of it. I will specifically mention Browner as to his performance yesterday and why I marked him reasonably high. It is not easy to play the wide positions especially when you are playing in a 3-4-3 formation where the opposition may try to make it difficult by playing a wide player on both sides and you therefore have to rely on one of the three central defenders to cover the full back position or have to make sure you are back there to help out. Defensively I thought Brown did a good job and then showed great energy to go on the overlapping runs. I agree with somebody who mentioned that some of the crossing was poor but also thought that some of the passes /crosses provided were good and should have found a forward taking up a better position. For me Gosling also when he came on provided more service than we had seen BEFORE he came on though to me he is a frustrating player because he always looks like he is playing at half pace. He did in my opinion produce some good moments and also some good passing with his interplay with Brown but he should have wrapped the game up with the two chances he had. Something I didn't mention in my report was the frustration that is most of our corners and free kicks into the box which seem to have far too high a trajectory and therefore if we do manage to find our player it generally results in a header that goes over the bar.
Anyway ,enough from me, its onwards and hopefully upwards until January where I very much hope to see what is a very strong squad (how many teams in this division have 3 or 4 experienced players who can't get into the match squad) strengthened in some areas but also thinned out in others. UTG

Steve one thing I noticed yesterday the number of cross field balls that went to Browner and he checked back (every time in the first half)which meant the whole impetus was lost.
Too many passing decisions yesterday were the wrong ones and I have to put this down to players not knowing the other players game enough and a lack of communication.I admire DC for thinking through games and formations/changes etc but we need to play to our key player's strengths.

Good to see the OP's had a change of mind but some of the players scores are ridiculous we played Welling yesterday not Barnet but didn't seem to create many chances of note.
As the OP suggests we are now going to play half a dozen possibly season defining games, if we come out the other side undefeated with a few wins we could cement ourselves as real promotion contenders. On the flip side if the loss of LDV saps our creativity and we continue to fail to create chances we could well be in danger of slipping out of the Play Off positions if we can't turn draws into wins.

Toppergas, We created plenty of half chances, hit the bar twice, their keeper made a few good saves but a lot of our failure to score is down to wrong decisions in the final third and quite possibly too many changes. Perhaps sometimes DC is a little bit too clever for his own good and maybe he is also trying to keep the whole squad happy. I still feel the business he does in january will be the most important aspect of our season and still blieve he is confident that he will bring in Matty Tubbs (I am not so sure!) With Balanta getting more game time and fitness I would be lookin

On Tuesday I got accused of being wrong of my view of a game I went to when the poster accusing me didn't even go, so Steve I can completely see why you didn't want to write the review at first because quite frankly at times it isn't worth it and it's frustrating. Honestly, this week i've considered binning off the forum to be honest, because you can't even have a reasoned debate with a few posters and it does make you want to respond, going to stick with it a bit longer because things like Steve's reviews make this forum worth visiting. Thanks mate.
