Has he ACTUALLY refused to play? It seemed from reading that that Hanlan has had his head turned, but that Barton is preemptively wondering if Hanlan might choose not to play, not that he actually has refused to play? Either way, Barton is saying too much and it won't do anything to help the player or the club's cause to gain maximum value for him. Barton is a smart guy but his blabbermouth does neither himself nor the club any favours. Barton should not be suggesting the lad is refusing to play for us unless Hanlan actually has refused. Barton should be talking to the lad, the CEO and Owner not the media at this stage. Big mouth Barton in action again.

It just frustrates me that players hold all the cards and contracts seem to mean very little these days. Either way the player wins - The likes of Bennett can sit on a fat wedge until it expires, and those that want away just have to make it known, and the club cant risk having an unhappy player in the ranks.

Refused to play against Cheltenham - refused to play Saturday - Get this arse gone !! Are you sure because at the time the ever-honest Joey said he was injured.

Through injury or choice he’s not available and he wants to go and play for Lincoln.” Through injury or choice according to Barton. So which is it? You’d expect the manager to know if his own player was injured or not. Unless Barton is accusing Hanlan of faking an injury to get out of playing?

If a player says he isnt right and not fit to play how can he argue against that?...but i suspect he will have his suspicions based on conversations he alluded to.

Surely Barton must know what is going on and medical staff must know if he's fit? Sounds like Barton is discrediting the lad and that's hardly a good tactic if he really wants the lad to stay. Whatever, sounds like he will be gone come the end of the window. I actually still think Hanlan has the potential to be a useful player at League 1 level.

If Hanlan is saying he doesn't feel 100% fit to play how can the medical staff say otherwise? I still don't get how he was injured last season if he played 90 minutes most games and then there were no signs of him having an operation during the summer, would just resting really solve the problem. What's the betting he goes to Lincoln and has a good start to the season again, although how the tribunal valued him at £150K is a complete mystery.

Can anyone say they would blame any player for wanting out of Rovers? He’s free to go if he does. We need players here that are fully committed to the club and turning around it’s fortunes. Watching that shower off cow dung on Saturday, I'm not sure we got many like that from this crop of players

This is what happens when you sign a player with totally the wrong character, he left Gillingham under a bit of a cloud, had his head turned for money, now he's going to do the same to us. If he had the right character he would stay and redeem himself, and battle to get back in league 1. But no he's a gutless money grabber who doesn't give two figs about the club. There are some harsh lessons for the club to learn here and another expensive mistake. We should cut our losses and get rid. He will always flatter to deceive, look dangerous, and get a few goals here and there but will never be a natural goalscorer, he has zero composure, is weak, not aggressive enough to be a striker. This is our problem, we need players who will fight for the shirt. Get rid, the quicker the better.

From 5 minutes 15 seconds to 8 minutes is all about Hanlan for those who wants to hear that.
It is a bit confusing as JB says Hanlan is not fit and needs minutes and time on the training pitch. Then he says he is not available due to injury or by choice. He then says Hanlan is getting to the end stage of return to play protocols and then it will be a decision for Hanlan and his advisors to make to play or not.
Trying to read between the lines, to me, Hanlan has been injured and is not fit to play a full game but will be able to do so soon. But it sounds like that Hanlan then may choose not to play. Sounds all very strange to me.

If Hanlan doesn't want to be here then he can go. These players who were water poor last season trying to call the shots. They are reason we are league 2 club, none of them are good enough last season.

I'm sure with the money he is on, Hanlan can make up the difference out of his own pocket if he is that desperate to get away. If the player was valued only recently at £150k, is still under contract, then surely he is still worth £150k. Let him go on loan to Lincoln and they can pay all his wages until his contract runs down.Simples. The thing is and as I said at the time…. He was over valued. There’s no way he’s worth 150k after last season. Bet he goes for between 50-75k .

Instead of being held with a gun at our head, he stays until we get our money back, and he can sulk for another 2 years, he was part of why we got relegated.
He ain't going to get a deal anywhere if he sulks for two years, look at Bennett.
