Thug bus to Brentford ‘83 when I was just out of school. Bus never turned up so we piled into a couple of Transits. Our driver was having rum in his morning coffee (7am) . Some random we found in a Cafe on the Stapleton road tagged along . Kicked him out at Reading for pi$$ing on the coat pile. Got beat. I’m fairly sure the plan was to stop in every town for a pint on the way back via A4. Got a little bit fckd up / lost ./ escorted out of the County at one point. About midnight we saw some floodlights…..it was a little disappointing to discover we were back at Griffin Park. Ran out of petrol then had flats but kept going on the rims at 30 mph. Got home around 4am.

Losing 6:1 to our red friends in the Anglo Scottish Cup was a low point. I was watching from the East End (long story), so was up real close to those gurning pricks. TBH from that day on I knew I’d be a Lifer, as nothing could ever be that bad.

I left Bristol in 1979 so every match was like an away game for me. However one match which springs to mind was kidderminster Nov 2001...God we were dire that season finishing second from bottom of division 3. Thankfully one one team got relegated then and that was Halifax. Anyway Kidderminster away. we went 2-0 down after 60 odd minutes and I left to return to the pub . Driving back to Windlesham after the match had finished on the motorway I had a tyre blowout in the outside lane. Managed to control the car to the hard shoulder and call the rescue service. I to drive virtually the entire way back at no more than 50mph on a space saver spare wheel. While driving I had a migraine come on nearly made it home before vomiting all over myself!!

Exeter away literally this season got to be up there 4 down inside about 22 minutes wasn’t it? Awful. At least it was a nice day and not too far to travel. Wasn’t too bad, left the ground and went into the pub behind the away end at HT, atmosphere in there was better than in the ground!

Leaving Brentford on 15/04/89, we lost 2-1 and then to hear about the tragedy at Hillsborough that same afternoon.... That day will always stay with me

25th May 1989 Rovers were play the second leg of the D3 playoffs against Fulham at Craven Cottage. First home leg we won 1-0, second away leg we won 0-4. Good away result but what made it a bad day was that the club hired a train to take the fans to London. Obviously on Paddington station on the way home the gasheads we in a jubilant mood with lots of singing and chanting, as you would expect. British Transport police, or perhaps I should say one female officer decided to walk a*****t the gasheads hitting guys between the legs with her baton stick inflicting a lot if pain and laughing about it. This was witnessed by many including one of the club directors who collected on the return journey, details from the eye witnesses. Action was taken against the Tansport Police. About 3 months after the incident, on a Sunday evening there was a knock on my door and there stood a Police Sergeant who came to take a statement from me as part, I assume, of the investigation. I heard nothing more about the incident other than a rumour that she was "moved to another department". Apart from that was a brilliant day. Club renting a train was a brilliant idea. The 4 nil was not the game that officer created havoc. It happened at Fulham but was defo another match.

Man Utd away in the cup replay October 1972 after drawing 1-1 at home. Height of football violence. Up to Manchester on the Rovers train special. In the Scoreboard End before kick off. Utd singing Stretford sing, Scoreboard fight. Suddenly fighting, one friend chased into the toilet and nose broken, another chased out of ground with 3 or 4 others (from Cadbury Heath?) along rail tracks, iron bar on head and lucky not to be killed, and me, hit on head but stayed in Scoreboard End and St John’s Ambulance staff saw me holding head (14 year old) and let me sit on a bench by the touch line. Watched game in peace, we won with late winner and saved penalty from George Best. Great game but really awful walking back to train station hiding my scarf and then stones/bricks breaking train windows. Mayhem!

In the late 70's we had quite a few trains under the banner of "RATS " Rovers away travel service. They were organised by the supporters club and it was one of these that this woman ( so called police officer ) that went mad.

Swansea away at the old Vetch was always a horrible fixture regardless of the result. I remember one game, around 97-98 where the away fans were pummled with stones and objects on the way to and from the ground. Getting caught up in that crossfire wasnt nice. Yep the feckers used to hide up the lanes and as the copper lead Rovers prosession went past all sorts of objects came flying out of the dark, they did particularly like to lob any milk bottles that were left out on doorsteps. It was truly brown trouser time and there was also a lot of lanes to get past. There we’re some serious head cuts received and many Rovers fans doing a Basil Fawlty impression back to the train with swathes of bandages on their melons. Exactly that. I remember I was about 18 and just 3 of us went over for the game. I got hit by a lump of brick on the top of my shoulder and one of my mates had a glass bottle of liquid (I assume urine) land at his feet. Truly horrible and the only time I’ve ever felt uncomfortable. Even going to the gate for derbies was a breeze after that.

We all piled off the tube at Fulham Broadway and the nice boys and girls from the Met wouldn't let us off the platform, a crush quickly formed with WPC hitting fans at the front to force them back and others at the back, fearful of falling onto the tracks, were pushing forward, the ones in the middle crushed. Very nasty incident totally created by The Metropolitan Police.

Going to wigan at Springfield three times in one season in the early 90s First game postponed just before three. Then the second game got postponed going up there. Third time took the supporters coach and both coaches were involved in a accident on the m6. Waited for a replacement that got us to the game at half time and we lost 3 0.

Rovers did their very best to get a 5th sent off so the match would be abandoned but the ref Kevin Lynch was having non of it!

My first ever away game. Moped from Stockland in Devon to Taunton station. Van pulled out of junction on way. Hit side, wrote bike off. Persuaded driver to take me to station. Train to Temple meads, then bus to Eastville(?). SC coach to game. Brick through coach window near away ground. Lost 9-0 (yes, that Spurs game!) Somehow back to Bristol, then Taunton station, persuaded local farmer + trailer to pick me up (via phone boxes!) and collect bike from hedge on way home. Straight to village pub by midnight to collect abuse by from village idiots. Not my best day to date!

Early/mid 00's when I think we lost to a Lee Trundle penalty. Remember being held in that lane after the game where the police were directing people to their cars/busses or the train station. I was staying with a friend who was at Uni there so just wanted to get a taxi. Ended up having to walk to the train station but at some point the police escort disappeared and I was walking with a couple of other Rovers fans, who of course where wearing their shirts! Didn't feel safe until I finally got in a taxi!

Cambridge away 1992. Me and my best mate both 18yrs old decided it was a good idea to drive up on a Friday afternoon in a clapped out ford escort. We started off with a puncture on the A46 after that the traffic on the M4 M25 was awful. We left at 1pm and finally got to the Abbey stadium at 7pm so a nice 6 hour trip sat mostly on the M25. We were in the open end behind the goal where it didn't stop raining the whole game. I think we went 1-0 nil down but levelled before half time. The second half was an absolute slaughter and completely miserable conceding another 5. So after a 6-1 loss soaking wet we headed back to the car, we hadn't got out of Cambridge when the car broke down. We got back to Bath via the AA at 5am on the Saturday morning.
