Just heard that former Rovers defender Andy Spring has died. Signed from Coventry City in 1985 he moved to Ireland won their national lottery and in later years was a lorry driver in his native North East.

Sadly voted as Rovers worst ever player in four two magazine, said to be an overweight Sunday league defender by many gasheads.
Sacked by Rovers after being found guilty of burglary.

I heard that he "appeared" on stage with a stripper at the True Blue club before sleeping off an hangover in the car park before the Darlington Sunday afternoon kick off 85-86.
Did he also play in Coventry 4-0 blitz over Liverpool (Dalglish etc al), with Platnauer?
Lottery win, school burglary. He seemed to have one hell of a rollercoaster life. Could be a film, but you wouldn't believe it.

The likes of Riordan, Nichols, Ehmer and Barrett have surely changed that view in recent years, now he'd have struggled to make the top 10! Assuming he died from natural causes he does seem to have lived life to the full. RIP |

Everyone who has played for Rovers has done his bit and gets my respect. I don’t remember much about Andy save he was a big unit. RIP.
