This has gone largely under the radar with no explanation from the club. Capacity was 11,916 the season we won promotion from L2. Now it seems to be 9,700 if Saturday was announced as a sell out. Why the difference? Why the secrecy? What’s the plan to restore capacity to something thats even half adequate for a team with the slightest ambition.

Someone on here the other day said we had been misinterpreting the rules and it should’ve been 9,700 all along. Don’t know if true.

Thought this had already been explained by the club. All to do with no standing allowed at pitch level in the likes of the Thatchers end etc. Not the clubs rules, the EFL's.

Where has it been explained by the club? Do you have a link? I can’t see anything on the Official Site or social media feeds and the Post just states it as a matter of fact.

9,700 = 10,500? Something doesn't add up here.

That’s one rumour, another is that capacity should have been that all along, another some unidentified safety concern, another is to do with increased segregation. Would be good if the club told us and whether that’s the way it’s now going to be for as long as we stay at the Mem.

Well I’ve got an ST and was away the weekend so didn’t tap on through the turnstiles personally. Unless I’m automatically counted by default with all the other STH’s?

9,700 = 10,500? Something doesn't add up here. Segregation areas accounting for the difference in official capacity compared with actual match day capacity?

As I previously thought in the Exeter build up thread, Safety Advisory Group. Jobsworths.
'They are non-statutory bodies and so do not have legal powers or responsibilities, and are not empowered to approve or prohibit events from taking place. Event organisers and others involved in the running of an event, retain the principal legal duties for ensuring public safety.'
www.hse.gov.uk/event-safety/safety-advisory-groups.htmFrom the Bristol Live email I've received: 'Some supporters were surprised when a crowd of 9,689 was announced after Rovers declared the game a sell out shortly before kick-off. In relatively recent times, the Mem has hosted crowds of almost 12,000.'
'But, since the COVID-19 pandemic Safety Advisory Groups have become more influential in the way stadiums are run, meaning some lesser-known regulations are being policed more stringently. One of those is standing at pitch level, which is not permitted and it has wiped several hundreds off Rovers’ capacity, reducing it to 9,700.'
'Yellow hash marks have been painted at the foot of terraced areas across the stadium, most notably in the Thatchers Terrace where supporters are no longer allowed to stand up against the advertising hoardings.'

Would an easy solution be to move the first crash barrier forward five feet, with this area raised above pitch level? (Breeze blocks sideways put side by side alond the length of the terrace and tarmaced over?)
This would still have space for a walkway in front of the crowds.
It may cost a bit but if we get an extra 300 fans every 3pm ko, then it would more than pay for itself. Match tickets, drink and food, extra shop sales, programmes, 50/50 etc.

That almost 2.5k reduction in capacity really makes the push for anew stadium so much more important now. 🤦🏼♂️

Said a few times - think I recall Gorringe explaining this on having a gas or another interview around October / November time.
All the more important we get a new stadium. The Mem is only going to get smaller as time goes on.
Meanwhile the terrace experience on the east side was awfully cramped Saturday.
