I didn't bet any on correct score, wish I did as I thought we could win by quite a few. Did you do 6-0 as well? I've collected quite a bit on us getting promoted luckily though. š Had a punt on 5-0, 6-0 and 7-0. The winning bet returned Ā£405 which was decent. I bet that pitch invasion after the 7th helped. im sure we'd have scored 8 at least if it continued with that momentum. Well done mate thats beat the bookies

2nd May 1990 Sammy igoe Browns right foot 7-0 Scunthorpe
I know we havenāt won many promotions in our history but is there another club out there that has done it in the kind of ways that weāve done it ?
Absolutely incredible.

Absolutely incredible. The national press and reaction we've got to Saturday's result would suggest not. Absolutely amazing. UTG!

Two days later and #BristolRovers is still trending on social media around the globe. Sounds like we are everyone's favourite second team - let's hope we can capitalise on our new found fame somehow!

So, dust has settled, beer drunk. Memory savoured and enhanced several times by viewing highlights and media clips of epic celebrations. Last seasonās demise reversed and Sam Finleyās āProper Football Clubā have replaced Max Ehmerās āProper Clubā in tier 3. Donāt need to throw any more sour grapes at him than that but I will say that two twenty year old loanee centre halves showed more passion, fight and footballing ability in those last two games than he showed in an entire season. More importantly the contribution of an effective captain rather than a passive one was so much in evidence all season that even though Couttsy was robbed of the opportunity of leading us in the last game you felt his influence was out there.
Of course they were all heroes on the Seventh of May but as many have said Wheloās performance was exceptional as the deep lying midfielder transitioning defence into attack and looking after the ball, it showed his many seasons of experience and rolled back the years including some exquisite switches of play pinging it out to the wings. Yes Scunnyās youthful side eventually crumbled in the face of the relentless onslaught of eleven (ok fourteen) players on top of their game uniting for the common purpose of breaching their opponents defences for as many times as it took to clamber into third spot before the final whistle blewā¦but what a spectacle it was in sunny BS7, my 58 (nearly 59) years and position in the East Stand prevented me from partaking in the pitch celebrations but I had twenty or so minutes of quiet reflection taking in what Iād just witnessed and soaking up the marvellous sight of my fellow gasheads exhibition of unadulterated joy and excitement. Then I quietly sloped off to meet up with equally seasoned gasheads as myself in the Welly, exchanging a man hug or two on the way. What a day, what a way to clinch promotion, what a joy this squad has been and what hopes they have rekindled for us. Genuinely think talk of this being just the first step on a journey of improvement as voiced by the manager, the CEO and the owner might be realised this time after the abortive attempts of the previous two promotions to the third tier. There are many gasheads we lost in the pandemic who saw the club sliding from the position GC left us in to the soul destroying empty stadium capitulation, so wish Gregsgas, Gas Incider, Severncider and the rest couldāve seen those boys reel in that 5 goal margin over the course of those incredible 90 (or was it 120?) minutes but they did you and your memory proud.
Make us dream? Boy did they! Impossible Dream? Mission Impossible? Yes all those things but JBās belief in his squad and their determination to repay his faith in them forced Richās Groundbreaking bus over the finish line and I will have a smile on my face for weeks picturing Billy Elliott rising like a salmon (Billy the fish perhaps?) to send all of us into a Seventh (Blue) Heaven.
Love it!!! UTG

Itās just dawned upon me that after watching this side tear up the league week in, week out for months Iāll now have nothing to do each Saturday for a while. When does pre-season begin?

It was the most important goal on Saturday. The longer it took to get the first goal the more difficult it would become. We owe the lad!
