I never saw players like Glenn Hoddle doing much tackling or heading the ball. I hope he has his head in the right place and can prove us all wrong, be a real treat if he can find some form and be a useful squad player this season. I for one will support him if he dons the famous quarters, seems like a lot of unfair criticism targeting him when still our player. UTWestbrooke Are you seriously comparing westbrooke to Glen hoddle!? 😂😂... Seriously I get your point though. Let's hope he proves us wrong 👍 Put them both out on the pitch tomorrow and I know who I'd put my money on.

A good experience for everyone at Rovers. Current Portuguese champions ,2x europa league winners,2x champions league winners and winners of the intercontinental cup. Someone pulled a blinder getting this fixture. Can only thank everyone at Porto for giving Rovers this opportunity. Somebody posted about it was possibly Porto's B team, that makes some sense as they've played West Ham U23's in the past. The first team could well be far too strong for us. The third goal looks a complete shocker, did Jaakola just pass it to a Porto player or was his pass intercepted, then our No 5 tried to head the ball when he should have just booted it.

FC Porto's main squad continues to prepare for the 2022/23 season in the south of the country. On the third day in the Algarve, the Dragons worked together with the English from Bristol Rovers FC at the Browns Sport Resort, in Vilamoura. Here are the athletes used by Sérgio Conceição: Marchesin, Rodrigo Conceição, Fábio Cardoso, Marcano, Wendell, Matheus Uribe, Bruno Costa, Francisco Conceição, Pepê, Danny Namaso and Evanilson; Cláudio Ramos, João Marcelo, Vasco Sousa, Bernardo Folha, Galeno, Gonçalo Borges, Toni Martinez, David Carmo, Zaidu, Fernando Andrade and Mehdi Taremi. Sounds like a lot of player's were involved. Certainly some good player's on that list, that are not reserve player's.

2nd goal was a foul less said about the 3rd the better but still a creditable result We looked a couple of yards slower in that clip😱😱😱 I wouldn’t worry about that in the slightest. Talented opposition but also if we look leggy then we are probably being worked very hard in training.

Take the point on the opposition, but do not agree on training, unless they all came back overweight and unfit which, if true, does not fit the narrative.

Rovers will always struggle against the top teams because under JB we play an open expansive game. This is great when you are playing teams in your own league of similar abilities but we will seem short against the better sides with top players. It is true that certain lower league sides seem able to raise their games but the reality is that they are teams who are defensive minded and who simply stop the better players from performing . It was not a cup game yesterday and if this had been a genuine competitive fixture then JB would have played it differently but yesterday served a purpose. There has been so much stuff written after the run we were on and the 7 goal final game that its probably not a bad thing to be brought down to earth . Better to lose now than win every single pre-season game just to get a hiding in the opening fixture that happened a couple of years ago in Ben Garner's first game - when the realisation that our house had no foundations.

I was one of the lucky few that attended and we did alright, Kilgour got put in the sin bin for a bad challenge, Jakkola would of been sent off if it wasn’t a friendly and we had 2 stonewall pens not given.

It sounds like the ref had a good game given it also looked like a clear foul in the build up to one of the goals! Was it Porto's 1st team squad or B Team?

If they've been training hard all week it's pretty obvious they aren't going to be 100% fit for a match. If they haven't been training hard all week then why go to Portugal in the first place.

Agree to disagree. I see absolutely nothing there whatsoever. If we offload him this season, it will be our best bit of business. Again, I’d agree to disagree. In that relegation season I watched every game on I-Follow, and there were numerous times that he was the best player out there, along with the games he went missing or wasn’t tough enough. If he’s learnt a bit over the last year and a half about getting stuck in, there’s no reason he can’t be a part of the squad. All that being said, I think he will either move on or be loaned out. Yeah he created more assists than any other Gas player that season but did remind of Chris lines in his first spell when we were in a relegation fight. If JB can do what DC did with lines when he brought him back then we’ll have a decent player on our hands.

Porto one of the top 3 teams in Portugal, perennial Champions League competitors used to playing in the hot conditions. we lost, so what! Pre-season is a time to regain fitness, bond and prepare for the bread & butter of league one.
If we hit the ground running, I believe we can all look forward to an exciting and successful season

From playing Harrogate to playing FC Porto in less than 12 months, the miracle of the Mem continues.

Not being funny but how can you tell from less than 2 mins worth of footage that we looked leggy. Im sure we will be fine, 3-0 against portuguese champions isn't awful, could be far far worse.

Tbh preseason is just that, getting fit, new and previous season players getting to know each other, and Joey having time to bring in another crop of excellent players. We are playing Vince's virtue signallers from the Cotswolds (ish) on day one of the season, we owe them, and I am sure we will be up for it.
