Could be a very good signing … knows where the goal is for sure.

As mentioned, 30 years old, 6”1, fairly good goal scoring record & no known history of Injury problems. Always done well at L1 level, a decent signing and addition for me. Get Joey working with him, could well be an excellent signing in the coming months.

Could be a very good signing … knows where the goal is for sure. Averaged a goal every two games for Doncaster and a goal every three games for Pompey and only 30 so a decent experienced player to have on board. Only time will tell if he’s a good signing , everyone starts with a clean slate it’s what he does from here on that matters. I think Collins will start the season as our main man up front in the number 9 role but there were games last season where he last form/ wasn’t scoring so good to have an experienced striker on the bench. Not long now.

Not loving this signing. Not the best record and rumours he loves himself a bit too much. I'm sure JB knows what he's doing though His record in league 1 is better than Norwood's and he's 2 years younger than Norwood.

Things are really looking up at the club, we’ve signed a Marquis instead of a marquee.

To be honest- I've always found Marquis a bit of a tool.
However proven league one goalscorer we needed. His numbers are one in four. For me this is a little better than Norwood.
I won't be getting his name on the shirt but a very decent imo.

I dont follow players from other clubs or other clubs as a whole. But John Marquis is a name I’m familiar with. Question is, is he another Brett Pittman style signing?
By and large Pompey fans will tell you that Marquis wasn't a success during his two-and-a-half seasons with us but some of that was set against the expectation and belief when he came in that he would be the centre-forward who fired us to promotion following three successful seasons at Doncaster. It was a tough set of expectations for him to live up to and it never quite sparked for him in the first season - partly due to an imbalanced front-line and partly because he wasn't quite the player much of our fan base thought we were getting. He got a fair bit of stick from our crowd before he left in January by which point it was a move that was probably best for both parties.
What I would say is that I don't remember him downing tools and he never hid even when things were going wrong for him and the team. He'll put in a shift and unless his legs have gone in the last six months, you definitely haven't got another Brett Pitman on your hands. If Barton can get his confidence up and get him scoring then you might well find it's a really good match up for you.

Could be a very good signing … knows where the goal is for sure. You could say a 'Marquis' signing. Welcome to the club John. I think he'll be more of an fringe player coming off the bench, ala Pitman and Leon Clarke just a few years younger, more durable and a lot more mobile. His goalscoring record isn't too shabby at all.

Good competition for Collins/Lofty, just wondered if you guys thought perhaps Collins could play on the left of a front 3 this season? If not I reckon we need another winger (maybe 2), attacking midfielder and just one centre Back (as we have Grant, Anderton & Gibbons who can all cover there)

Always managed to score against the gas when playing for that there other Rovers, always.
Always rated him, but regarded him as a right royal pain in the arse, don't know how many he has put past the gas but it must be a fair chunk.
Good signing in my eyes, experienced and knows how to hold the line, good football brain on him.
