So that’s our strikers sorted (I guess)
Collins Marquis Loft Saunders
Be interesting to see if Barton sticks with his 1 up top in a 4-1-4-1 or mixes things up with more of a 3-4-3
Good to have options. Experienced finisher joins the ranks, sounds good to me!!

Think it's a decent signing, not too special, a lot of his goals are tap ins which I like. If he gets 10 goals and can play a part in a successful season i'll be happy. Don't expect him to bag 20/25 like Donacster days

Then a middle 3 of Coutts, Finley & Evans. With a front 3 of Anderson, Marquis and Collins cutting in from the left

In every transfer window the toughest deal to complete is the striker.
Finding quality strikers on a free transfer is pretty unusual.
Signing a striker who has a physical line-leading presence is a coup.
Just imagine you could find such a player who does not have a history of injuries.
What if this player had scored exactly 100 league goals since Feb 2016?
He's gonna be expensive in wage terms. But Hey.
Could such a player sign for The Gas with 26 days left in the transfer window?
Don't be silly.
Go on. Dream.

All strikers are on the most money not worries about the wage as that’s probably justifiable. Longer term we’ll see

Great signing 5 years ago.... Got in to double figures a few times and 20+ a few as well. 6 ,1 ‘tall 30 years old , looks a better option than loft on paper but I guess they’ll both be competing for the striker slot behind Collins in the same formation that saw us do so well from Christmas onwards last season. Good to have options and to have him as back up ( probably )goes to show how far Barton has taken us in a short space of time. Time then for Loft to show us he can do the business?

I guess it’s all depends on the hunger in his belly , if he’s still got it it might be a good signing

Always managed to score against the gas when playing for that there other Rovers, always. Always rated him, but regarded him as a right royal pain in the arse, don't know how many he has put past the gas but it must be a fair chunk. Good signing in my eyes, experienced and knows how to hold the line, good football brain on him. He has scored 4 against us A penalty for Torquay season 12/13 2 for Donny 1 in 17/18 and 1 in 18/19 and 1 for Pompey 20/21 All four goals with his right foot

Shocked by the negativity - great signing IMO. knows where the net is, regularly scored goals - at 30 still a few years left in him too.
Great singing IMO.

Then again would we all get that excited if the rumours suggested we were going to sign a player just released by Lincoln, after he had only managed to score 5 goals in 20 games? Having had a good goal scoring spell for a few seasons he seems to have totally lost his way last season, hopefully, with a fresh start at Rovers he'll now rediscover his goal scoring form.

Well known, proven goal scorer…..what’s not to love! Welcome to The Gas!! Shows how far we’ve come, I’m sure he would have got some decent offers

I dont follow players from other clubs or other clubs as a whole. But John Marquis is a name I’m familiar with. Question is, is he another Brett Pittman style signing? I hope so. When 30 Pitman was one of the top scorers in League 1 with over 20 goals and a decent haul the following season as well for Pompey. Something like 35+ goals in 70/80 Pompey performances. If Marquis does that for us It could be a very exciting time! UTG!

I agree with those on here saying this is a good signing. IMO he’s a player that we need to restore a bit of confidence and belief into so he can rewind the clock a bit.
He’s still in his prime at 30 so there’s no reason we can’t do it if we give him service. Not often that we sign a player that has consistently got into double figures in his career and isn’t 34/35 like Pitman or Leon Clarke.
One thing I will say is that Marquis isn’t here to be on the bench, I expect him to form the focal point of our attack alongside Collins.

Great singing IMO. 9 goals last season hardly makes him a great signing, he's now only had one good goal scoring season in 3 seasons, it's really anybody's guess if he can rediscover his past form. Personally I'd have felt more confident in Norwood getting the goals.

That would mean a major change in tactics from last season, I can see Collins playing a deeper, Nicholson, type role. Perhaps reverting to No 9 when Marquis runs out of steam and is subbed off.
