"I'm looking forward to starting a new challenge with Bristol Rovers and, after speaking to the manager, and seeing the training ground, I knew this was the right place to play football for the next couple of years," Marquis said.
Rovers manager Joey Barton added: "John is a player I've admired for some time. He is a real coup for us, a proven goalscorer at League One level and a great addition.
"After speaking to him over the last few weeks it was clear that, like me, he believes we can continue to improve.
"Our group will continue to push to get better every day and John will fit in superbly."

hes strong good in the air play as target man but my only fear is can he stay fit and has his legs gone I don't think that he's got a long history of injuries, and can't imagine that his legs would have gone at 30

Cracking signing this.Always seemed to play well against us and thought afterwards we never sign a striker as good as Marquis.Yes,others have come in and done superbly for us but they didn’t have as good a record as this lad.Exciting times ahead for the gas.

Having one or two "older" statesman in the dressing room did us no harm last season though.

Shocked by the negativity - great signing IMO. knows where the net is, regularly scored goals - at 30 still a few years left in him too. Great singing IMO. 9 goals last season hardly makes him a great signing, he's now only had one good goal scoring season in 3 seasons, it's really anybody's guess if he can rediscover his past form. Personally I'd have felt more confident in Norwood getting the goals. Norwood scored 8 last season so by statistics Marquis is the better off

What you doing Joseph? We should be signing 35 years plus players, didn't do us any harm last season.
He's hardly a replacement for Pitman or Clarke.

We've signed a proven league 1 striker who at 30 still has plenty of games left in him. I really don't understand some of the negative comments around his signing, yes he could turn out to be a flop but then we could have spent a wedge of cash on a 25 year old and had the same result. Excellent signing imo, welcome to the gas and good luck

The sheer length alone of that video is encouraging. Some top goals too.

We will just have to wait and see but if he remains free from injury then he will score well in this team. The reality is that any striker worth his salt will do so with the creativity that we have running through the team. If you look at the amount of chances that we created last season it was ridiculous. JB plays a very offensive game and a goal scorer was important. Hopefully we now have one

Nothing to do with his football skills, but just read that during Covid he phoned a Portsmouth fan who had tried to commit suicide, the supporter later said that this phone call probably saved his life. He's obviously a bloke with a big heart.

Personally I'd have felt more confident in Norwood getting the goals. JCH only scored 8 goals for Coventry the season before we signed him. He'd only scored 13 goals in 94 games in the 3 previous seasons too. We've already made £2M from his sale and could be due a bit more. Was he not a good signing?

Douglas Bader’s legs went when he was 21 but he was still hitting the target 10 years later.

Fantastic signing, air of quality, think our front 4 all have different attributes which will be of importance with increased subs allowed
