Was absolutely devastated when i found out the news last night. A great footballer and a lovely person off the pitch too. I'm sure he will battle this well and come back stronger with the backing and care from all Gasheads, his family and specialists. Get well soon, Nick!

Knocked me sideways this...
I wonder if it was an injury or just a feeling unwell that led him to discovering this.
I wish him all the love and best in the world for getting better and recovering from this awful disease. Get well soon Nick!

Pretty much one of the worst things a person and their family can ever go through. Hearts going out so hard to Nick and his loved ones right now.
So much love and only the bestest of wishes going out to you Nick 💙💙💙

Really shocking news about Nick and here’s hoping he can fight it, remain strong and make a full recovery.
Best of luck Nick - hoping to see you back in the quarters as soon as possible!

Really gutted for Nick and his family as they have to live with this too. I was saddened to read that this form of cancer mostly happens to young people and can sometimes be attributed to rapid bone growth in tall people (Nick’s 6’2”) and sports injuries. However it is encouraging that great strides have been made with treatment in recent years, especially with an early diagnosis, so there’s every reason to believe he can win this battle especially with the fighting spirit he’s shown on the pitch.
Everyone’s rooting for you Nick, not only the Gas family but across the football community as typified by Jamille Matt’s pre match interview. Stay strong, stay positive and know that we are with you every step of the way. That lamp post is waiting. You can do this!

An awful form of cancer and one which can metasticise very quickly. I lost my sister in law to it , after she had her leg amputated and was clear of it. It was an awful time and she had 18 months of being free from it before it came back and all over her body. My hope is that this was caught very early and that treatment works as they treat it aggressively. It put a shudder down me when i read the word as i miss her so very much. Hoping Nick stays positive as it’s imperative to have that mindset, the people who were not strong and were full of sorrows, faded and quickly when i was having chemo but not for cancer. I have not posted yet as it brought back some really scary memories, I hope medicine has come up with much better alternatives to when Mary died. I will be praying for him at mid day mass today, this is the only reason i am drawn to go to church today. God bless and keep you young man

Terrible news sending love to Nick and his family - get well soon bud I honestly and having experienced it, up close, cannot think of a worse form of this diabolical disease. My experiences with my sister in law were back in the early 00’s and i just hope and pray that treatment has come on, in leaps and bounds. It makes me feel sick to read the word sarcoma on the end of any cancer. Most of the time iot was a case of preserving life rather than even thinking of any career. How cruel thos really is. EDIT I have just done a brief search and it seems that the treatment is still very aggressive and will involve removal of tumour and chemotherapy. He will need all of the fitness he has. I had hoped top read that it was a different treatment regimen now but, no getting away from it, it is an awful form of this horrible and indiscriminate disease

www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/joey-barton-nick-anderton-cancer-7403765The impact is a lot worse than I was expecting. I was hoping for his sake that they’d be able to nip it in the bud and we’d see him back in the quarters before the tail of the season. Sadly it sounds like he might not even be walking again by that point. Not only is he battling for his life, it sounds as if his career is most likely over for the foreseeable future at least, with a young child and another one on the way. Will be sure to wing a decent wedge of cash Joeys way if he follows up on the pledge to run next years London Marathon.

I think this is why I’m struggling to get too upset about yesterday’s game and result. It really doesn’t matter.

Still knocked sideways by this, found the applause on the 16th minute very emotional. I'm sure that Nick will be battling as hard as he can, and it will help to have such strong support around him.
