Well, it is entering dangerous territory with UK employment laws. The Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA), the players’ union, has been advising some of their impacted members this summer and continues to actively work with “two or three” players as this transfer window reaches its close.
“We see this tactic used now because there is this opportunity to move players on before the deadline,” James King, general counsel of the PFA, tells The Athletic.
“Managers change and they make an assessment of their squad, deciding that some players are not in their plans. But a player still has an employment contract and that is for a fixed term. The player is an employee and they have rights and protections like anyone else.
“This isn’t keeping a player’s skills up to the level they should be. These are professional footballers and the employer is obliged to train them at the highest possible level."

So Trev and Westbrooke (surprisingly!) havent found clubs and Joey now says they are back in the fold. Pleased for Trev but this whole thing has been very poor from Joey. Needs to keep some thoughts in his head Or good man management? Guess we'll wait and see

Fans needing to know the ins and outs of a cats arse whilst not really knowing anything and then exploding with negative comments because of it is something that seems to happen these days a hell of a lot. Personally as far as I’m concerned Joey Barton is the manager of our club so therefore he manages the way he feels fit. If he succeeds then he’s doing well and if the results turn bad he’ll probably be sacked. How he deals with his staff is his business and he’ll sink or swim based on that and the results. Joey has dealt with Clarke the way he feels fit and that’s his job. None of us know what’s been said , really it’s none of our business. People said that the way he dealt with Thomas was poor at the time and then Thomas came back a better player for us at the end of the season. How many of the posters on here have played premier league , for England , won professional medals playing and at management level I wonder.

I know it's become a bit of a 'Footballing Cliche' but some players may need a 'Kick Up The Arse' and some may need an 'Arm Round The Shoulder'. I think that's where the art of 'Man Management' comes in. Whether it's Alex Ferguson or Joey Barton, Jurgen Klopp or Neil Warnock. Getting the very best out of individuals is one of the key components. If Joey Bartons comments about Trevor Clarke improves him individually and indeed the team as a whole then surely it's very much the way you 'Speak to your staff' whether in public or behind closed doors and vice versa.

On the Clarke situation its odd.
But let's see how it unravels. DC did pretty similar to Elis Harrison and he came back into the fold and made a decent league one player.
