Evening Post reporting that Pablo has had a "small heart monitor installed" - I presume they mean a pacemaker. Good news that the medics have said that there is no reason why he should not play football again - onwards and upwards, Pablo!

It's an ICD, which is slightly different to a pacemaker. It does nothing until such times it has to deliver a shock to start the heart, like a defibrillator, whereas a pacemaker is working nearly all the time to regulate the heartbeat.
I believe it is similar to the devices implanted in Christian Eriksen and Fabrice Muamba.

I'd assume there's one on site which the stewards are aware of. At the very least the on duty paramedics would have one. Wasn't that long ago that there were none, hopefully all sport centres / fields would have one at close proximity. Used to run a lot and after a heart attack mid marathon the events I did after had paramedics on duty and the run companies had their own defib. It's sad to see that some sports events medics is the organisers mum with a box of plasters and some TCP. Thankfully that is changing quickly, probably a condition of insurance |
