We all know that this is a tough division this season with the calibre of the teams that came down, and those that were already here. I know we're all desperate for us to do well, but we should all realise we're not going to run away with this league after wins against a poor Burton and, from their other results, an Oxford side that has yet to click. We need four or five quality additions before the deadline or we will be at the wrong end of the table come Christmas

The only good thing I have learned tonight. Thank f**k we didn't sign Norwood! Barnsleys worst player by a country mile. I'm also not too fussed that we didn't sign Luke Thomas on the basis of that game. Agreed. You would have thought the way they played he should have had a field day.

Best team won on the night… No gripes there at all.] More concerns than positives from our performance .. we need better quality players against these sides - next 14 days will hopefully bring them in.
Thought we made the basics look difficult and simply came up short on desire , ideas and ability.
Will be tough and same result if we repeat this level on Saturday .!

We were outplayed and outpaced all over the pitch.
Sadly it looked a bit like Championship v's League 2
Barnsley were a yard quicker to everything and the best team won.

I don’t think it needed changing at half time to the extent that it was to be honest. The formation has served us so well, but we weren’t playing our usual passages of play or getting stuck in enough, that was the problem. Second half has been arguably worse I think as Barnsley have taken their foot off and seen it through. Last 15 minutes of the first half we were improving slightly and creating half chances . At half time I felt we were still in it just about but our players have looked like strangers in the second half. The amount of changes at half time killed any chance of improving and then more changes to formation throughout the second half constantly hasn’t allowed us the opportunity to get any kind of grip on the game at all. It’s been changed so much that nobody knows where they’re supposed to be on the pitch. Having said all that Barnsley have been excellent and look like they will be promoted based at n obviously this one game. I think Joey used that HT opportunity to show his ruthless streak and send out a message to his team. It probably was accepting defeat at that point really but my guess is he thought that was the best decision long term.

Haven't been able to watch, were we poor or were Barnsley just to good for us?

We've been very poor tonight, but I think we should cut the lads some slack. The last time we played this badly was probably way back in Nov/Dec last year. Shows how far we've come. Not sure tbf, FGR was pretty poor. I do have a bit of a worry here that we're game on, game off in form. We got 'lucky' against Crawley as it was a cup game but otherwise we've actually been pretty inconsistent We've just got promoted.
We've got 6 points from our first 4 games. I'd be happy if we carried on like that, it would mean we would be comfortably mid table at least come May.
We're still not by any means full strength either, with probably 5 or 6 more additions to come in.

4 or 5 quality signings needed Luca Hoole should now go back to right back and the guy from Everton Lewis Gibson partner James Connolly at centre back

I don’t know how to explain it better than this, but it seemed like Barnsley had the ball magnetically attracted to their feet. Every little 50:50 rebounded to them. I’m sure it’s down to the fact they were better, and they WERE better, but it was incredibly frustrating seeing every deflection land in their lap, every header drop to their feet.

I have , out of nowhere, found a new found belief in this team and , dare i say it, the work ethic of the manager. We seemed to do pretty well when playing away, last season. I am going for a win and by one goal only but i think it will be us who pushes the game You and me both. Old Bristol Rovers would have gone to this fixture and we'd all shrug our shoulders with a 2-0 loss. This team and this gaffer start a game with belief and play with effort and a pattern. I won't be surprised if we win 2-0 this evening.
Cue heavy loss (old habits die hard!).
What do I know?
Second best all round tonight, I'm afraid.

A long time since I’ve seen such poor passing from us. Long or short or in between we got it wrong so often.
I’m not a massive fan of Saunders but he was about the only one who looked ok. Only other positive is that no one got sent off. What a bad night.

This game highlights the critical need for a commanding central defender.
If the opposition EXPECT to win long and high balls they can be brave and push on.
If our central defender wins most headers, as CT did last season, the opposition will be more cautious.
Simples.

Haven't been able to watch, were we poor or were Barnsley just to good for us? A bit of both to be honest. Think it started off in favour of Barnsley's skill tbh, but as it went on, there was no real excuse for some of our play. Only Collins showed any skill in his first touch, everyone else seemed to bounce miles off. Our pass success ratio must have been the worst in a long long time, I'm fine with longer balls going wrong, but some of it was just basics you expect kids to get right. The horrible back pass summed it up. Overall, I think it was about 50/50. A good team would definitely have put Barnsley under a lot more pressure than we did tonight. One thing i will say about this team though, they never gave up - and credit to them. That's all I can ask for.

Tonight was extremely disappointing and we were terrible but I wouldn’t worry just yet.
We’ve got 6 from our first 12 and it’s clear this is a very temperamental league again this year and you just don’t know which side is going to turn up.
Burton was evidence there are plenty of terrible teams in the league. They drew the other day against Accrington after being a number of goals up early doors.
I think we would be just fine even without reinforcements, and that the reinforcements will allow us to punch up the league.
Bad day at the office. Even the best teams have them.
It’s worth saying as well that whilst Barnsley were aeons ahead of us tonight they had a worldie for their third and a bit of the rub of the green for the second.

Going behind after 3 minutes followed by a wicked deflection for their second put us on the back foot, we are going to struggle against the bigger established clubs unless we get a bit mote quality in, I’m sure JB will sort it keep the faith and on to Portsmouth UTG 👍
