Jason Roberts played for (I think) Ghana??
Edit: just checked it was Granada 13 goals in 15 games according to wiki. Pretty damn impressive

To highlight the strength of Rovers recruitment in Wales back in the day here's an all-Welsh squad.
Thomas; Slater, Lockyer, Roberts, Green. Godfrey, Browning,W.Jones,D.Williams ; Ward, Easter.
Subs. Bodin, Trollope, G.Taylor, G. Williams, GAV. Williams,
Struggling for G/K for Irish or Scots team but sure someone could pick a 'World' 11?

The South Wales 'nursery' that we operated back in the 60s/70s certainly produced some good players most of whom won caps for Wales at full and U23 level.
Martin Thomas, Phil Roberts, Neil Slatter, Geraint Williams, Frankie Prince, David Williams, Wayne Jones - can't think of any strikers though!
Wonder why that recruitment came to an end?

The scouting and academy systems are unrecognisable today compared to those days, as are club facilities, it's only been a couple of years having a decent training facility at Rovers, whereas the players above would not have felt that much of a difference between clubs back then. A Rovers pal of mine who is a chauffer said he dreaded Temple Meads drop offs on an early Monday morning. He said the amount of kids wearing Southampton training kits on there way to St Marys for the week with Bristolian accents drained his faith in our recruitment of local talent.

Now there was a player who loved nothing more than intimidating opposing players, heard some crazy stories of Ronnie from a former player and mate, some salty training sessions were never far away either it seems!

The one that springs to mind is Wayne Powell. A prolific striker at youth and reserve level, but for some reason never made it at senior level. Malcolm John was also a good reserve striker, that never progressed.
