There is no argument List of Becks achievements is equivalent to a "Match Day Thread", List of Sir Brian's is equivalent to the Fruit Market Thread! Don't get me wrong, Beck was a great guitarist and admired by Sir Brian, but Sir Brian's achievements are unequalled by any Guitarist or even artist (apart from maybe McCartney) What are your definitions of achievements please Sean ? Achievements would be things he has accomplished in his life It would take me hours to go through all achievements so here are a few He built the Red Special with his father and still uses it today. Which other guitarist can claim that? He wrote masses of Songs for Queen and other artists (I could only find 21 by Jeff Beck) did Beck write a number one song? He has produced and collaborated with many artist including the likes of Black Sabbath Kerry Ellis, Meatloaf and FOO Fighters, Lady Ga Ga (who nicked her name from Queen's Radio Ga Ga) As part of Queen he has been charting for now 6 decades 70's, 80's 90's 00's 10's and 20's Queen Greatest hits album - 1st and only British artist to sell 7 million copies in the UK (also most weeks in the album charts by a British Band and still at number 13 in the charts today) Bohemian Rhapsody - Regularly voted by various polls as Greatest Song of all time, also most streamed song of the 20th Century and only song to be Xmas #1 twice by same artist Queen musical "We Will Rock You" still running after 21 years and showed in 28 countries Queen Film Bohemian Rhapsody - broke all box office records for a bio Pic Oh and the late Queen bless her tapped along to his song at the Platinum Jubilee (don't forget he also played on the palace roof in 2002 and the closing ceremony of the 2012 Olympics) - no other guitarist did any of that Sir Brian has a PHD in Astro Physics - has worked with NASA, saves Badgers and Foxes and is a pioneer of Stereoscopy

Success in the guitar world isn't measured in record sales or box office receipts. It's about recognition from your peers. As a pro guitarist for 45 years, with plenty of my own albums out there, let me tell you this. Every, and I mean every top guitarist rates Jeff Beck as the Guvnor. You would severely embarrass Brian May by even trying to compare them. Queens success is a seperate thing altogether.

This will do my head in now. What is your favourite guitar, talking both electric and non. I can’t play well but i enjoy trying, my favourites are Martyn and Les Paul Gibson although i do have a matrix ovation with action lowered that i enjoy too.

Absolutely he would and here is Sir Brian's tribute to him - Doesn't change my opinion though

Colston hall, a few years back and with his female bassist. I was truly awestruck. Hendrix was never my cup of tea but Twitter is full of people who saw both , saying beck had a wider range of styles You've hit on it KP - I always thought that it was the breadth of styles that set him apart. There are a lot of rock guitarists I like and admire but always thought he edged it.

Just read this thread and read "Bohemian Rhapsody" and now feel sick.
Godawful pantomime dirge, even by the dreadful "standards" of Queen.
Where's my tin hat?

I was answering KP's question. To understand what a great guitarist he is you only have to listen to some of the hundreds of records or live recordings. I can recommend some to you if you wish? I am sure when he passes he will be hailed by many as the greatest, of course that won't be everyone's opinion but it will be mine

Finally bought one - and it's so bloody heavy that I can't play it for any length of time. Action and sound great though. Got a strat and a 335 which are nice but I keep going back to my Telecaster. Always fancied the shape from the moment I first saw one.

I took guitar lessons at one time and the teacher was showing me 'Killer Queen'. I remarked on the arpeggio bit and how was it played. The guy looked at me with a sort of "are you for real" expression, and said "it's a harmoniser - it generates harmony notes to his basic phrase." You need to be careful about what is actually played and what is studio generated.

In comparison to Frampton, the rest are insignificant. The only one that comes close is the late Paul Kossoff. A genius at work. Man and machine in perfect harmony.

[/quote] Probably the only guitarist to get a degree in astrophysics, Queen's lead guitarist (and frequent songwriter) is a brainy adventurer who's always seeking new effects. An early goal of his was "to be the first to put proper three-part [guitar] harmonies onto a record" – like the orchestrated squeals of his solo in "Killer Queen." Brian May layered dozens of guitar parts onto individual tracks, building palatial walls of sound. Appropriately, even his instrument sprang from his imagination: His main guitar, the Red Special, a.k.a. the Old Lady, is a homemade wonder, constructed by May and his father in the early Sixties out of components including wood from a fireplace (he has been known to play it with a sixpence coin rather than a pick). It's yielded everything from the pirouetting, trebly solo in "Bohemian Rhapsody" to the proto-metal riffing of "Stone Cold Crazy." "I can listen to any player and pantomime their sound," Steve Vai said, "but I can't do Brian May. He's just walking on higher ground."

Beck May Page Clapton Van Halen Gilmour … I have seen all of them, some several times i.e. May and Page, but as a un-sung guitar hero I would rate Andy Latimer (Camel) and his Les Paul as one on the greats. The who is the best debate ? can never be solved, you just have to accept that we are all different and all have our own opinion, and that’s how it should be. God bless Mr Beck he was one of the true greats. As is Beckingham - fleetwood Mac, see what I mean, it’s an endless debate 😉.

Can't remember if Mick Ralphs played lead for Mott that night though. Saw them many times, with several different guitar players including Mick Ronson. Another underated axeman, and Luther Grosvenor, aka Ariel Bender.

Always fancied the shape from the moment I first saw one. I have watched many TV specials on guitars and who prefers what. I would recommend Mark Knopplfler and his incredibly rare, custom made and beautiful guitars. The work that goes into them, as you well know, is incredible. Yes, the ales Paul is heavy and wasted on me. I just got it as an old and now departed friend, needed money and offered for sale and for silly money. I took it but as a loan guarantee but he never came back for it I mostly use the ovation and am very happy with it. I do not own a Martyn but would love to. Is is true what they say, that you can make a Stratocaster sound like many other guitars ? I love the blues so use a peavey amp with it as the Marshall was not my kind of sound. All are wasted on me but I have a connection to them now as one was my brothers (RIP) and I will never part with it. Maybe, soon, I will go back to basics and learn properly. I know a Gashead who plays gigs and teaches. Enjoy my friend, from the little I play , I play ok and always enjoy it, not sure the neighbour would agree 😂

Many laughed at the lead in the shadows being very good but Hank was highly regarded. I go from Al Di Meola to Richie from Black Sabbath. I just love great guitar
