Didn't see the game so can't comment on it but this place really does do a terrific meltdown after a defeat. Yes we've played more games than most and we absolutely need to strengthen in defensive & midfield positions but we're 8th with 37 points. I'd have taken that after the way we started the season. If we were only told on Fri that Thomas had been recalled I'm not sure there's too much we could have done, the fact he'd probably been involved in the defensive pre game work wouldn't have helped either. Personally I think we'll fall short of the play offs but we already have the nucleus of a good league 1 side under contract for next season. It might not seem it reading some of this thread but it's not all doom & gloom My take is completely opposite. Let's take the team that played today. Only beefy and maccormick are part of the nucleus that will be here next season (that werent our players last season). Would love Coburn to sign on a permanent contract but I don't think that is realistic. Collins is likely to leave over the summer, especially if he continues with his assists and goals. I think we do have the squad to go for at least the playoffs this season. Talk of bringing in 5 or 6 players in this window. It's still game on. Remember what the transfer window did for us last season. You’re taking Collins out of the “nucleus” of next years team? Despite him being under a long contract and having said he’s happy here? Seems based on nothing more than a convenient hunch.

Am I misunderstanding what you’re saying? Are you saying that only Connolly and McCormick (arguably 2 of our worst performers this season) are going to be the ones that form a nucleus for next seasons squad and that everyone else is going to gone ?

My point is that if we do we already have off the top of my head Belshaw Ward Hoole Connelly Gibbons Gordon Rossiter Finley Evans McCormick Collins Loft Marquis under contract with deals I believe offered to Sinclair, Grant & Anderson. Add that to any permanent signings made this month and I think that's a pretty decent starting position going into the summer window

Those who still think Rovers' will make the playoffs are living on a "fantasy Island". Rovers are just about an average Division 1 club. Too many points were lost to clubs near the bottom of the division. As for the defence, the less said the better. Joey will hopefully build a squad capable of promotion for next season.

We may be 8th but in theory teams below us down to 15th can go above us, not all of them have to win every game to do so.
Old debate re points on the board V games in hand but cannot agree with those who say calm down we are 8th

What's changed then in a fortnight since you posted this on NYD? "Our little club is climbing the table, dare we dream of a playoff place finish? UTG."

We've several none performers and some seemingly not up to L1 standard

I would suggest being the only fully fit centre back we have would certainly qualify him as a key player at the moment. Two decent additions in before Wycombe & he’ll be swiftly forgotten🤘🏼 I agree but got a feeling joey will wait until the dying embers of the window to get in who he wants. Not looking forward to the Wycombe match at all.

Dreadful performances over the past fortnight from our little club have sent dreams crashing. Still, probably to be expected of our club. UTG.

Will you take that bet?

Every confidence we’ll get some key players in the positions we need to strengthen. If you asked our fans at the start of the season if they’d be happy with top half with 19 games to go and 14 points needed to be safe, I’d say that the vast majority would take that. There will always be peaks and troughs during a season. Keep the faith.

The playoffs are now a long shot at best. Hardly inspires confidence when losing to the likes of Accrington and now a dip in form. After all, it is with a regular occurrence that Rovers lose to the basement clubs. May be a mid-table finish. UTG. If losing one game to our bogey team whom we haven’t beaten in around 12 attempts means a dip in form then yeah it’s a dip in form. But we had won two in a row before that so 6 points from a possible 9 isn’t bad. How about 9 points from last 6 games ? Or 12 points from our last 8 games ? Or 18 points from our last 12 games ? If we hadn’t had that awful run where most of our defenders were either injured suspended or ill ( we’re with you Nick ) we’d probably be in the top 6 this morning. We went around 7 games without a win around September time. I think we’ll probably finish between mid table and 8th but that would be a decent first season. Some of the pessimistic reaction after a defeat after winning four out of our last 6 prior to that is embarrassing.

Have not read comments on this thread as i can guess what there general nature would be. FWIW I think the result highlights why talk of promotion is expecting far to much. Nothing wrong in being optimistic, in fact it's better to read than the doom and gloom stuff, but it must be tempered with a dose of realism. I have not thought we are a top six side all season, recent performances have confirmed that imho, but i do believe we are capable of giving any team in this league a game and will finish comfortable top half. Nothing wrong with that as far as i am concerned and i do not believe JB is under any pressure to exceed that ambition. I think it's interesting that both JB and DC are at a place in there careers where they have been before but have not been able to take a club to the next level , DC is riding as high as he has ever done but was unable to take the next step, JB is on a similar projectory, it will be interesting to see how there fortunes fare as they strive to take there clubs to the next level, whose your money on to make it ?

I see the misunderstanding. When talking about a nucleus to the side, I see that as the perm members, not loan signings. The increase in nucleus between last year and this year are the players that people are questioning, so I am not sure we have a good nucleus for next season. I think we have a great team for this season, a couple of tweaks in this Jan window to sure up the defence then I think we will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season.

I take it you're content to watch Rovers at the Mem then rather than try and become the next Brentford? I wonder how much their owner has invested compared to Wael?
