A councillor of any other stripe wouldn't. The greens have history and it's only them making these issues. When has any other party done this? Example? In fact I member the tory MP(?) being fully vocal and supportive of our move to the UWE and Sainsburys. She's not representing her constituents. A handful of local residents are against the stand, how many are supportive? Is she not representing them? Don't get me wrong I think all main parties aren't worth voting for as they all seem to be self serving, power hungry and liars but the greens are out on there own when it comes to things like this. They have form and history. A party of protest that has never had to run anything Yes the planning process approvals is slow and poor, Yes rovers could have done things better, yes other parties will try to make political point scoring out of it but that still doesn't excuse the way the Greens behave. And it is unique to the greens. I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one as neither of us are going to change our minds! Has such a sensible comment ever been made on here? I doubt it! 🤣

Don't think anything has changed post wise - the temporary fence will be there as it was in previous games. Assume advertising boards or the electronic display will be placed in front of the stand when finished - difficult to tell if the distance is any less to the new stand compared with the similar posts at the Thatchers end.

Seen it in person today. It’s an impressive size and a much welcome upgrade on the embarrassing tents we had before. Looking forward to seeing it finished and operational! Hoping for floodlights on the stand and a big screen

This sounds impressive Dust, and agree anything is better than the tents.
Things are looking up for the Rovers.

For those worried stiff by the impact of the new stand casting a shadow on the pitch. The Stand is not complete yet but already there are lights installed of the front. Look temporary but presume the final installation will be across the full width. UTG I.e Up The Gaslights

UTG I.e Up The Gaslights Somebody better make sure they are included in the latest plans then, and are fitted with LED bulbs with electric supplied from the solar panels.

Not aimed at you but....the only thing likely to block the sight lines from the West Stand is the low roof line of the SW stand, imo. Raise it to the level of the South and West stands and it's all sorted. Sightlines argument is nonsense. It's been built low for one or both of two reasons: 1 Cost 2 Potential planning issues and objections. If the whole thing actually gets built I think we will see the SW stand built up to the level of the other two stands in due course.

Look at the roof lines of the South and the West stands. Also has anyone else noticed that the South stand ends are quite different? It looks like another section is being planned from the East side, to match up with the South.

Yes, if we knock the West stand down, then yes, I believe the construction of the stand makes it relatively simple to adjust or remove that section. Obviously it depends on what gets designed to replace the West. In a perfect world in terms of logistics, I think the next step of doing anything at The Mem would be the West, but then you have to factor in the loss of hospitality etc, etc. Unless there is a complete flattening of The Mem, I think the West stand pretty much stays and The Thatchers gets done next and then you get a big structure across the whole of the East lets not get ahead of ourselves here though

But if anyone is thinking really long term about staying at the Mem, you would have to do the North and East stands first because the pitch would need to move 5-10m East to accommodate a decent new West Stand.

The depth of this new stand is limited because if it was built farther back it would be impossible for approx 50% of seats at the back to see past the side of the west stand.

"War, force is always a last resort. Given that warfare is always defeat, the commander in pursuing the best possible outcome seeks to disarm the enemy without ever joining him on the battlefield" Just trying to understand your post: Are you saying that it is better to retreat and regroup, rather than fight and lose? I would love to think that the club has a strategy finally with this. Don't think we would have 'lost' either way, i.e. we would most likely have got a positive decision when the proposal went to the planning committee. However, taking on board the more sensible comments raised by those objecting, amending plans to suit and resubmitting not only shows a proactive engagement, it nullifies the objectors argument.
In Sun Tzu's terms it disarms the enemy before the engagement, so I think it is a very good approach. Also bear in mind that the resubmission followed the planning officer's advice.

Watching the game last night and i noticed how much space there is on either side of the pitch. I don'y know if that's because we have the markings a bit narrower at the moment but even without moving the east stand I reckon we could move the west stand 10ft nearer the east stand.

Actually having looked on google earth you could probably go more than that, especially as the first bit of the east stand is just a walkway. Maybe 20ft. Might make for a really good atmosphere everyone so close to the pitch. For me the stands being uneven isn't a big deal so you can always add more on the east side too or go mutli tier on the west side. I'm probably really making it pie in the sky now.

Personally, I wouldn't mind just extending the existing West Stand to the South and North to run the full length of the pitch. I'm probably the only one, but I quite like the Cricket Pavilion design. It would increase seated capacity and increase the higher income corporate boxes at least cost. No need to move the pitch then and the capacity can be incrementally built up on the other 3 sides.
However, let's get the South stand over the line and worry about that afterwards.
