With all the costs involved in searches, surveys, professional advice, legal fees and loans over the past 40 odd years, you would have thought we must have spent at least one decent stands worth of money. If nothing happens in the next two years you would think the future must be a redevelopment of the Mem. Time to play monopoly around Alton and Strathmore rds and Filton Ave! With all the students around paying rent, and nest leavers in Bristol not able to afford their own places maybe it is not as far fetched as it sounds....what makes you think it's not already in progress? If it was the *last* thing the club would do is publicise it as that would drive up prices. You just set up a few small companies, buy what becomes available, make an income from the rents (and get all the wayward balls back for free) until you have enough in place to make it a more formal process... That would take some advanced planning.......

A NEUTRAL COMMENT ON THE PLANNING PORTAL TODAY
Comment:Before allowing to proceed, there must be a fully detailed plan to improve against the current situation and mitigate against further deteriation of situation due to proposed works and numbers of people catered for, upon the entry and exit of the grounds during match days, causing obstruction and delays for Trubshaw residents. Further, there must be a process of consultation, in detail, on said matter with residents, to their satisfaction. In addition, the club must provide a plan for ongoing proactive positive engagement with residents, so issues can be raised and solved.
Did the TRUBSHAW CLOSE resident not notice that they had moved into a cul-de-sac which was the main vehicle entrance into the building next door?
Did the TRUBSHAW CLOSE resident not realise that the building next door surrounded a sports pitch?
Did the TRUBSHAW CLOSE resident not appreciate that for a few hours before and after the round object is kicked on the grass there might be a delay entering and leaving by a vehicle?

Did the Trubshaw close resident also not realise that their property is built on what was part of the stadium grounds. It should have been called Memorial Close. Shame the Rugby club felt the need to sell it really.

Supporters still have two weeks left to support the revised south stand application.
Please do not leave this to others.
A certain very active WhatsApp group is currently encouraging the members to object.
Some guidance to the group is given about the topic areas to focus upon.
They are also being given advice about the "most effective" time to object.
This will all become apparent towards the end of October if the group members comply.
MEANWHILE
Two objectors posted today. I have included a brief section from each.
It appears to me that posters who fabricate/exaggerate/imagine events that are clearly disingenuous have no real grounds to object and will be ignored by the planning officers and council staff overall.
OBJECTOR A
"I can envisage the antisocial behaviour I regularly experience when my house is used as a public toilet on match days will.just continue."
OBJECTOR B
"Increased violent conduct towards local residents, everyone I have spoken to locally has been a victim of misconduct or aggression/intimidation from a fan, usually on leaving the grounds when the right of way to residents' homes is denied or obstructed."
There is no need to counter the arguments/lies of objectors. Just laugh at them and move on.
If you do post a supportive comment it is wise to focus on material issues.
Within the application there are a range of detailed reports and statements that are worth mentioning.
Please do not leave the supportive statements to other supporters.
There is a much improved facility in prospect for Bristol Rovers supporters.
It needs to be given every chance. Support is necessary.

Just noticed that on completing a letter in support of the stand application, a confirmation was received from BCC acknowledging receipt of my OBJECTION!!!!. I have sent a separate email to BCC rectifying this and asking what they think they are up to. I also requested confirmation that my interest was registered as support for the stand.

Letter in the post today from the council (as I'd previously supported I guess) asking if I wanted to comment on the new application. I assume they write to everyone who commented.
Done.

Genuine question, is it acceptable for someone who does not live in Bristol to support this or will any such support be ignored ?

Genuine question, is it acceptable for someone who does not live in Bristol to support this or will any such support be ignored ? Should not be ignored if a valid reason. When commenting on the original plans I noted that although a Bristolian I did not live in Bristol. However like the away fans I spend money in Bristol and therefore the state of the stadium and that spending is beneficial to the local economy . Also a good stadium increases the profile of the city. I then took the objections and logically explained why they were not relevant - I do not see why the planners would not take these factors into account.

Genuine question, is it acceptable for someone who does not live in Bristol to support this or will any such support be ignored ? According to most 'how to' guides, anyone can comment on UK planning applications but more weight is given to local residents - especially on the key areas that affect them. I live on the other side of the planet, but I will watch Rovers most weekends I can on Iplayer, I will visit and watch games whenever I am in the country and so yes, my opinion on a new stand for a local business will also be considered.

Done. I did get a bit confused as the acknowledgement page on the portal says that my comments have been registered against this application - I then realised that they didn't mean "against" as in objecting to the application! The confirmation e-mail confirmed that I have supported it..

You'd have thought/hoped that this is a certainty whatever the objections/supporters say. If not this could be the grandest f**k up in Rovers history.
