It just takes longer for the electrons to travel through the internet to Wiltshire I think you'll find it's photons these days.

The football club put in a new application to cover the concerns from objectors, and what do we get more sad , pathetic nimbies objecting. This proves beyond any doubt that this is not about the new stand but about having a sporting venue at the centre of their community, they don't want it , despite the fact that we have a Community Trust that puts alot of hard work and time into the communities of North Bristol. These sad people would object to gasheads having a heart (something that many of them don't have) and breathing if they could. They will sadly object to what ever the club tries to do to improve the stadium , hopefully the Planning Officer will see through them and quickly sort this and give us permission.

I had a look around the area today. First of all, the roof is on the stand but no seats, nor any seats in the SW stand at present. The cladding is on the SW stand and partially on the south stand. I took photos but the forum website won't accept them as they are over 1MB. I also took photos of all the surrounding streets and (surprise) there's hardly any parking spaces available on a working day when people should be at work. I though I might send them to the planning people to show parking isn't just a matchday issue but my wife reckons that would more than likely prove the point the residents are making about parking. Whilst I was in Alton Road taking photos a resident asked me what I was doing and she is furious about the objections being raised by her neighbours - she lives right at the top end too! Her only request (she was joking) was for the crane to move her hot tub! Anyone know how to reduce the file size of JPEGs? If so I'll put up a couple of photos.

Unfortunately, I live very close to the Mem and am 'lucky' to have two 'Green' councillors. Said Emma Edwards was supposed to be 'helping us local residents' to sort out flooding on Downend Road every time it rains (Blocked Drain), but when nothing was done I sent an e-mail saying that BCC and our councillors were 'useless' and only interested in 'politicking' for personal advancement! All I got back was an e-mail accusing me of 'abusing her'. I sent a reply saying I was just stating the truth, so how could that be abuse? The problem is, that the area round the Mem is now populated by a load of Green NIMBY's, I've been here since it was only the rugby and nowadays most houses around here are sold to non-Bristolians. In fact you struggle to hear a 'Bristolian' accent anywhere in Ashley Down!

It appears a good number live very close to the ground and feel exactly like you. will your voice be heard ?. Will they listen to local people in support of this application?. This is why it is critical to have national regional and local accountability and voice. Otherwise groups will move into communities and dictate and dominate the local agenda . Many think the west country is being over - run !.

Your correct again wertongas they simply don't want it. The councillors need to be aware of this prejudice in the final vote and the historical value of the Memorial stadium and Bristol Rovers Football Club. Quite simply a group of well organised lobbyist should not be setting the agenda for the people of Bristol. A minority group of 200 isn't reflective of people living in Bristol.

Then we can become even more narrow minded and say Horfield only for Horfieldonians ( what is the saying for that ?). Just accept that people can move where they like and can hold what opinions they like .

Sorry for me accent. But what you would like to suggest that would help BRFC, and nearby neighborhood to understand the situation that is happening at the moment with the stadium.

We are simply saying the locals Bristolians have a voice too and their historical cultural needs to be valued. I would say the same about the Black Communuty or any community with historical roots.

He’s complaining about people moving in from outside the area. What would you call it ? Look ….I’m obviously fully behind the club and find some of the locals ( or not!) objections a bit pathetic, but they are entitled to their own opinions . Just as anyone is allowed an opinion on their local area when they move there. 99% sure it’ll be approved anyway , then we can all move onto the next battleground…. The new east stand !

Those who object are entitled to their own opinions. However : we can't simply allow groups to move into communities and set policies without wider debate. This open the floodgates to people both on the right or left or even other agendas to invade a community and set policy. So to be clear I believe in local regional and national decision making . Therefore all of Bristol should have a voice !.

As a point of interest (and I have notified BCC) I grew up in Strathmore Road and the attached photo was taken in the back garden in 1965. Guess what - there's a bl**dy massive building at the bottom of the gardens, way taller than the SW stand, so in my opinion there is a clear history of a large building on that part of the site so really Rovers are simply restoring what was always there only making it nicer. Ignore dreadful youthful me in the photo! Don't know why the small image is upside down - it's the right way up when you click on it!
