Genuine question I wasn’t around for the start of a 31 page thread about a south/south west stand, and every time I try and find out what it’s all about (rumour and or facts, start dates etc) there seems to be alot of posters going off script and chatting about other stuff, could someone just spell out what it’s all about? If you can be arsed? If not don’t worry Thanks Its about a new stand for the SW corner of the ground. Possibly to incorporate the little seated stand with the tented south stand. It's probably the most ambitious thing that could happen since the Blackthorn end roof 25 years ago.

I was in contact with TG yesterday, enquired about the New South/ southwest stand and he said the club will be making a statement shortly. He is being very tight lipped about this new stand unlike the previous tented stands, which suggests to me that the club don't want the local sad nimbies to know to much about it, suggesting we are going to be getting a decent new stand at the stadium at last.

They can't keep it a secret unless it can be flat packed and unfolded 10 minutes before the first match.

They can keep it a secret until they submit a planning application, thereby giving local residents less time to get their act together? I'm surprised local residents haven't already raised concerns given the past problems we've had with them.

Exactly, the thing is the club should be in talks with the planning officers so that the plans meet with there agreement before they are submitted. This should shorten the time that it takes for the planning committee to approve the plans.

Not sure I approve of secret meetings and giving local residents as little time as possible to raise what might be valid objections to a massive stand overlooking their houses. Not that it'll be massive.

For some reason I can't transfer the updated local plans from BCC website of the Mem. However : the area behind the south stand is the less populated and consist of one road ( Alton road) and only two houses on either side of the road directly affected . The next road backs onto the car park and don't impact them. The other 60% of the area behind the south stand is ' no man's land'.
In fact it is the least populated area of the ground overlooked by houses. I will ask my wife if she can download the local map .I would be amazed if there was a fuss given the local political groups have backed a revamped Mem in behind doors meetings with the club. The Greens : Trash and Horfield Rose along with ' save the Memorial stadium ' have said they support a modernised stadium. I Think it will fly through and The Greens will not bother opposing ( unusual I know)!.

It should be easier to get permission if it is temporary. Bournemouth had temporary permission on one of their stands. Then after a few years applied for permanent permission and were granted it.

Ok thanks , that was my thinking that it should be a lot easier.

It affects the people whose gardens overlook the South end of the ground. I hope we will be a good neighbour and keep them informed.

But what would you prefer open space were you can hear noise : fans popping their heads over and sub standard partitioning or a solid sheet sectioning the stadium off. I mean the view from the 8 houses in Alton Road now isn't very private .

I’d suggest the club are remaining tight lipped because they have nothing to say as it stands.
