Because the super duper scoreboard cost too much money, and no one knows how to disconnect it and move it 🤷♂️ Bristol Rovers FC didn't pay a penny for the scoreboard you are right , they didn't pay for the tents, or renovation of the bars either. The only thing the club paid for was the re-laying of the pitch after it was ruined a few years back and fell to pieces. The pitch wasn't insured so the new pitch had to be paid for by the club. Going by the cost of the Edingburgh Stadium construction, based on my maths this stand could cost the club upto 2.5 million . Also at 25.00 per head( includes matchday income per head) and based on being two thirds full over the season the stand would pay for itself within 2 - 3 years .

I posted a Google Streetview link earlier, if you look at the ground from Alton Rd there are steps down to old turnstiles at that end of the ground. I'm not sure why we can't just remove/cover the steps and raise the ground, although it probably gives the club an excuse not to move the big screen. The South Stand has been wider and went beyond where the scoreboard is.

What about a revamp to the Thatchers end aswell....plenty of land behind and have a 4000-5000 stand. Revamp the Mem slowly over the next 3-5 years' won't need the fruit Market then Chill out! We only recently got a roof on the blackthorn end, so let's not get greedy🤨 The roof on the Thatchers is 25 years old....we need a new stand now

Don't worry about all the clubs who've built new grounds or redevoped, our BE roof is a thing of modern beauty.

Webcam and then a speeded up video of the stand be built in 2 minutes would certainly be fun.

It appears the new south stand will have the same number of roof supports as the blackthorn end.
Would be interesting to see how much cost and how easy it might be to take the north terrace roof off and put in a temp stand of 6000 seats (wrapping around the corners.)there instead.

That's Phase 2 a new roof for the north terrace. Phase 3 Fruit Market The new stand names? Home end "The Marvelous Marvin" stand. East stand "The Red ( Blue ) Trousers" stand. The west stand "International Jordanian" stand. Away end "The Lord Archer" stand

So further to my question : how long will the south stand go to the East Side ?. We are all a bit split . Some think it will have the scoreboard incorporated within the stand but with a drop level. Others think it is roughly the same size as present.
I'm just hoping either way there is a dropped section below the scoreboard to the away section. This will tidy things up. BATH rugby got a tiny seated area on the west side and Glouc cricket build a smaller stand near the pavilion. Even if it holds 100_200 it will make the area smarter!.

The North terrace is one of the best things about the mem, there aren’t that many behind the goal tightly packed terraces left in football nowadays. We need to cling onto it for as long as possible before we move to a new stadium IMO, because looking back it’ll be something we really miss.

Obviously hard to tell with these things until more detailed drawings are published, but the graphic released by the club shows where the end of the South stand is in relation to the away east terrace and it’s a lot lot closer than it is now. The last smaller block of seating looks to be roughly where the scoreboard is located now, so having the scoreboard raised up behind those seats could be very possible. My guess is they’ve left a gap in between the east and the south to house disabled away supporters, perhaps access reasons and existing wiring that run through that part of the ground play a factor as well.

We could possibly host 3,000 away supporters in the mem once the new stand is in place, by giving the opposition the Away east terrace and half of the South Stand.
There are disadvantages to doing that such as giving the away side more of an atmosphere and having to relocate season ticket holders, but it’s something we’ve never been able to do at the mem before.
Could turn the 9000 for a Tuesday night against Plymouth or Portsmouth into a 10,000+ crowd easily.

I think it's worth pointing out to those who calculate attendance figures that any away fans located in the new south stand will result in an entire block of seating being left empty for security reasons to segregate fans.
Counting the seating "dots" on the Clubs season ticket website shows
Block A was the usual minimum away seating area with less existing seating than as proposed
Block A has 597 seats,
Block B has 566 seats.
Thus if any games require Black B or C to be wholly closed off the maximum loss of revenue is approx say 566 x £22 average ticket price = £12452 loss per game. It's possible subject to safety concerns to only partially cover say 10 rows of seating (that's 50%) to minimise those concerns? That would halve the loss figure?

I wonder if the 12500 capacity reflects the above. Currently the Mem holds about 9500 plus new stand 3500 Total 13000. Then the club will take away segregation say 500 arriving at 12500. Who knows just a quess?
