I see Tom scored the goal to earn his current team South Shields promotion to National League North. Amazingly took 1500 fans to Whitby to clinch promotion Lower league and non-league support never fails to surprise me.

I saw that he had signed for them in the summer and to be quite honest, had not paid any attention since. Looks like they've had a great season and a deserved promotion. Fair play.
Be interesting to see if Phillips can get them up another level and if so, what that does for his career.

I’m pretty sure they are a full time outfit, fully professional which is astounding at Level 7. Iirc they were treated quite poorly when the Covid season (2019-20) closed they were miles ahead but were denied promotion and since have had to rebuild. Good luck to them.
UTG!

Congratulations to Tom and all those at South Shields. Great to see the joy promotion brings to people no matter what tier of football.

I always thought he was alright with us and surprised he dropped down that far.

I always thought he was alright with us and surprised he dropped down that far. Same, he did fine at Swindon then dropped that far down the leagues. Unless he was intending on going part time initially, who knows. he could easily play national league quite comfortably I’d say.

I might be wrong but think he developed mental health issues at Swindon possibly due to his time in the army, not had chance to listen to this podcast but assume their must be some reference to it, given the links listed listen.gascastpodcast.co.uk/276671/9545051Anyway good to see in getting some success as I always likes him as a player.

I’ve read before in players auto biographies that by the time a player drops out the league it becomes more about how the club fits in with the players lives rather than the other way round. Can’t remember who said that and it might have been a few!

I was lucky enough to get his shirt when I was part of a group who sponsored him. Pleased for him to be experiencing success, and on the way back up.
