On a slightly different note, a good performance by PV at Portman Road tonight. Defended well and a lot of effort. Went behind after bringing on Taylor. On tonight's showing, it will be a tough game on Saturday.

To progress next season we need to either sign Connor Taylor or a player of similar ability, we also need a CM who can hit a killer pass, there's no point in having over 60% possession if we never get the ball to the strikers.

To progress next season we need to either sign Connor Taylor or a player of similar ability, we also need a CM who can hit a killer pass, there's no point in having over 60% possession if we never get the ball to the strikers. I disagree. Evans, Finley, Ward and Bogarde can all hit killer passes. Our strikers aren’t good enough. Marquis Loft and Coburn are not the answer. Totally agree with your comments on defence. I think we need better in both boxes. We play the ball around fine. |

Quite bizarre after two years of beautiful Barton Ball everything on the deck and plenty of success playing this way, you still get that sense of annoyance/angst from the terraces that we don’t blast it up the pitch at every single opportunity.
Which In the main absolutely does not work, least of all against experienced quality defenders.

I was quite well placed on the east terrace and my first instincts were that he was off but I think they have a feed to their iPads on the bench so perhaps JB saw something in it? |

Again a lot to like about that performance but we do seem to be a bit short when it comes to the final pass. Lots of the ball without creating a whole lot of clear cut chances. Would be interested to see the offside goal again, he did look suspiciously off but the bench seemed to think otherwise.
Very surprised at how poor Weds were, ironically I thought Plymouth, Ipswich & Barnsley were all better even though we didn't lose to any of them. Weds very direct played the percentages looking for set pieces and long throws, not at all what I expected.
Plenty to be positive about, if we can sign Gibson & Ward permanently we'd have a decent base to start from come the summer

I agree on Connor Taylor but the midfield (and defence for that matter) need the strikers to be smarter with their runs. Too many times in the first half there was no movement from the forwards at all. Evans can hit a killer pass but needs something to aim at. |

In our last nine home matches we have taken six points from a possible 27. One win three draws and five defeats scoring just four goals two were pens all those goals scored in the Thatchers End!) and conceding 11. The draws were against three promotion chasing clubs Ipswich Barnsley & Derby. Just thank goodness we have eight away victories. We we win at Port Vale Plymouth Peterborough & Shrewsbury ? I expect a win at Vale Park. Ending with the Bolton home game which we could draw?

But obviously that’s not the best angle. Haven’t seen it back yet just got in. I’m Proud of our squad and staff though they’ve given us a good season generally and tonight was brilliant in terms of fighting spirit and effort and I thought we dominated large parts but got done by -a streetwise top league 1 club who were typical of that position as an away side near the top. Shithousery anyone ? Yep. Seen it all before ? Yep The two things that’s held us back I think are two things , one that was unfortunate and that was the majority of our defenders getting injured early on which saw us lose I think all of our games in September with midfielders playing at centre half and full backs too. The other was the Barton / Belshaw fallout which saw us drop from 8th to lower mid table in the space of the time it took them to sort it out. Other than that obviously injuries to coutts and Rossiter hit us hard until we signed Bogarde who has his uncles defensive attributes in abundance but yeah it’s been decent enough overal . I don’t see Barton as God or anything like some do , I still don’t really like him as a person but that doesn’t matter because as Rovers manager up until now I’d give him 8 out of 10 . DC is an 8 Ward a 7 Trolls and Lenny an 8 Gerry a 9 IVe been supporting since the late 80s So he’s up there in good company and hopefully he can push Gerry and get us in to that chsmpionship. UTG. |
