It would be very encouraging if Rovers were to win the opening game at Portsmouth, where the team invariably lose. UTG. Would very much take a draw and a home win against Barnsley. We were poor at home last season and need to get this right. Also I won’t be at Pompey this time but will be at the home game!

Hopefully the pitch will stand up to the weather a lot better this season. I dont think that helped matters from the winter onwards

We have worked on drainage and laid new pitch in the summer havent we? Hopefully back to it's lovely best. If we can get the defence right, I am looking forward to some fast attacking football on a great pitch.

Ironically it all started going wrong for DC when we sorted the pitch out, maybe he used it to our advantage but the style of play we have now needs a good surface.

A lot to be said about the pitch and Darrell's demise, definitely. Why the pitch didn't hold up last season is a mystery, given how good it's been in recent years. Was anything ever said about why it became such a mess? With our new signings and the style of play we employ, a decent pitch could make all the difference. UTFG 🏴☠️🇪🇸

UTFG 🏴☠️🇪🇸 It was mentioned there was an issue with the drainage which I think has been a problem before. It seemed to ruin the pitch very quickly. I recall Barton was saying after our away game at Wycombe that our pitch was superb (as opposed to Wycombes), and then a few weeks later it was pretty awful. Fingers crossed it helps improve our home form as that is key for anyone.

Our home form was poor because opponents worked us out and realised that if you defended deep then we didnt have the ability to break them down. i cannot remember a single successful long range free kick at home last season - i just hope that we have done something about that for this year

All foreplay and no penetration. Then we watch the opposition cut our defence with one long ball. I think opposition keepers love playing us as they are likely to get an assist or two in addition to having very few shots to save. Even on the highlights v cardiff, i know its a friendly but there were really good patterns of play but yet the keeper was hardly troubled

It looked excellent and hopefully it holds up this season. Still lots of activity at the South Stand end, still ground work with nothing actually being built upwards yet - the car park looked like a mini village has been set up for the workmen.

At least it's not been set up on the pitch like Luton's www.thesun.co.uk/sport/23020516/luton-town-kenilworth-road-stadium-work/

Managed to get 1 ticket which I will give to my son. May try getting a ticket in with the locals but that could be difficult in itself as I see they have sold over 14,000 season tickets. The game will surely be a sell out. Why not when the Gas are in town

Can’t make it but looking forward to watching it on iFollow … in, er, somewhere abroad where I’ll be of course.
