I've got a friend who's about 16 years into her journey, and I've seen how tough it can be - she's like a new person now though. Enjoy the game. I'm really impressed with how sharp the players look in what is just the first week back in training Finley was making everything happen in midfield and was well and truly back to his best. Sinclair chased everything and looked really tricky. I wouldn't want to defend against him. Thomas grew into the game and took both goals really well. Jones is now a player who looks like he deserves his place and has attacked and defended very intelligently. Marquis needs a little more sharpness, but this is the first preseason game. Connelly was very solid except for one stray pass which almost resulted in a goal. Wilson very solid and experienced and will be good support for Connelly. Evans is looking his good and I think this'll be a strong season for him. McCormick still lacks sharpness, but a lot better than last season. Gibbons still not convinced. Jed Ward had nothing to do. Not at the game mate, your opinion is different to some people on the first half performance of Gibbons & Macca! Evening post sayinf they were the standout performers, it sounds like the boys are looking sharp! Neither Gibbons or Macca showed they were irreplaceable, although all players in the first half performed well. I definitely thought that Evans, Sinclair, Jones, Finley, Connolly, Thomas and Wilson all had better games.

Reforming one’s self is most difficult but can be such a proud thing.

Neither Gibbons or Macca showed they were irreplaceable, although all players in the first half performed well. I definitely thought that Evans, Sinclair, Jones, Finley, Connolly, Thomas and Wilson all had better games. I think most of the team can be classed as replaceable. I thought gibbons was one of the better players first half. Can’t grumble with a couple of assists, should have scored and looking a threat going forwards. Said it often on here, but the problem with how we played last season is that I think JB stifled all our fullbacks and wingbacks with the boring sideways possession game. All of them had spells of good games and then were dropped and brought back again. We had no continuity. Of all of them though I felt that Gibbons had the most tenacity and aggression as a defender. Personally I think we should be looking to try and get our fullbacks in behind more, last night we did. I felt that last season we rarely did because of how Barton had us set up. We’ve got athletic fullbacks in hoole, gibbons and Gordon but didn’t seem to be wanting to work openings for them, it’s almost as if the team was set up to try and wear the opposition down and hope that Collins, Sinclair or coburn could do something. It’s only when we’re chasing games that the shackles came off a bit more. In gibbons case when he joined I watched some of the port vale highlights on YouTube and they played with wingbacks and getting him in behind for assists and chances. I’m hoping this coming season that we can utilise them all better to be more of a threat.

Great game last night - always entertaining and a great set up at Melksham… Thought Melksham weren’t quite as strong this year as they have been the last 2 seasons but it’s still a decent workout and their captain likes to try and put it on Finley a couple of times with some hard late tackles … was amusing watching Finley tell him that 3 times that he’d caught him and was late and then straight after make him look like a mug with a bit of skill rather than just nailing him (which he’d have been entitled to!)… First half we were right on it - high press forcing errors, immediately on it tackling back when we lost the ball, good shape and sharp passing …. Wilson was a rock at the back, loves a diagonal and his communication, awareness and passing was exactly what we missed last season! Thomas was sharp and McCormack was tricky, decent passing, tackling and skill full driving on…. Ryan Jones had a great game at Left back and worked well with Sincs and he’s come on since last season so wouldn’t be surprised to see him get more of a chance this season… You’d have thought at 3-0 up we were 2 nil down the way as soon as we scored Big John got the ball and instantly ran back to the halfway line with it! We also saw Evo do more of his driving runs as well as his tackling etc…All in all a really great First half performance and that was without Collins or Brown on! Standouts for me we’re Wilson, Thomas, Jones, Macca, Finley and Sincs but in truth everyone played well… 2nd half was quieter and less intense but we still scored 3 and hit the bar and their keeper pulled of 3 or blinding saves… Collins was decent and Brown you could see the talent and nonchalance when he hit the bar with a cheeky 20 yard curler… The trialist took a while to get into the game but looked ok if not outstanding, but did seem to work well with the rest of the squad and good communication with Greenslade who played right back … Always entertaining and a great start to Pre-Season…. I know it’s Melksham who are a lot lower quality than us but there seemed to be something about us that felt different - more on it - and if we carry on like that I think we are in for a decent season… Thanks for the post match report. What formation did we set up in ?
