You would think at 21 he would be ready for first team football. We bring in youngsters under 20 from higher leagues and play them. Seems wrong to me.

He signed a 1 year extension recently so what is he going to be able to prove in that year playing non-league football? He needs to be involved in the first team

Total agreement who say Jones should be in the first team squad next season, don't understand the logic of sending him out again, time to give our own a chance JB!

I can't understand how Championship teams give debuts to 16 year olds but our youngsters are not even considered ready at 20+ even when they Impress in pre-season friendlies.

Hoole was in a similar position a couple of seasons ago....was given game time and has progressed into a first team regular! The management team might still think he needs another loan as he's not quite ready. Maybe they are just letting us and him know what he needs to improve on to be considered our first choice left back! I think if he makes those improvements in the next few games against better teams he'll be in the squad for Portsmouth!

Players develop at different rates.
He is not very big so if he gets an extra 20-30 games experience in the conference or league two he should be all the better for it.
Maybe he might get a few minutes v Ipswich in the cup and EFL Trophy before he goes on loan. Who knows?
Still think he should have been in the squad for the last 3 or 4 games at the tail end of last season though.

Our pre-season friendly with Eastleigh was the first of their HOME 23/24 season friendlies with league clubs.
Last night they played their second league friendly.
Spireites 0 v. 0 Oxford United.
They also play:
Saturday 22nd July v. Swindon Town.
Last season they played 4 league clubs in pre-season games.
The results were:
13/07/22. Eastleigh 1 v. 5 Oxford United.
16/07/22. Eastleigh 1 v. 0 Swindon Town.
23/07/22. Eastleigh 2 v. 1 Brighton & Hove Albion Under 23.
26/07/22. Eastleigh 2 v. 2 Southampton B.
In previous seasons they have played Brentford B, (lost 1-0), Northampton Town, (lost 1-0), Reading, (won 2-1), Oxford United, (won 3-0), and Reading, (won 2-1).
In general, this looks like a useful yardstick for pre-season friendlies for local EFL sides.
