That may well be the case, however, there are plans for changes at The Quarters to enable the Academy to be moved on site. Ok. I wouldn't know but I am, personally, unaware of detailed plans which are costed and funding provision accounted for? There may be, but other than chit chat I have not heard of anything concrete. Have you Tilly? I only know what was stated in Wael's letter which came with the season tickets. I presume he has knowledge of plans and funding provision, however, he hasn't shared that with me.

On this thread there is a lot of speculation and guessing about what is an Academy (Cat 2 specifically) and its requirements and can it all be sustained at The Quarters As far as Cat 2 is concerned here is a link to CCFC Cat 2 including 3 year audits, funding and requirements. Funding is via grant from the premier league. www.ccfc.co.uk/news/2016/june/news-richard-stevens-on-what-it-means-to-have-a-category-ii-football-academy-/#:~:text=As%20with%20all%20the%20facilities%20requirements%2C,the%20various%20programmes%20and%20training%20sessions.&text=As%20with%20all%20the,programmes%20and%20training%20sessions.&text=all%20the%20facilities%20requirements%2C,the%20various%20programmes%20and There are requirements for indoor, outdoor grass and 3G pitches for U9 - U11, U11 - U15. U15 - U18. U18 - U23 teams with exclusive use at set period of these facilities. They do not all have to be on the same site or owned by the club. Further research shows there are up to 36000 young players within the Cat 1 - 4 system at any one time. Of those only 1% will make the grade to professional football. There are 8000 players playing full time professional football. Therefore MY GUESS is that there is certainly not the land, unless more is purchased, to have all age groups based at The Quarters., nor would that be recommended I think. So it appears to me only the oldest U18 - U23 group needs The Quarters use and possibly the U16 - U18 as well. All within what Wael has stated in the latest letter and shown on the planning applications.

Yeah that’s about right. Cat 2 you don’t have to own the land your facilities sit on.
Not sure about today, but used to be the case that Cat 1 you had too.
This is one of the things that was holding up City becoming a Cat 1 academy which at one time they were so desperate for. Clearly they had a long term plan to achieve that.
3 or 4 years ago the plans for the quarters showed separate changing facilities for the Gas girls and opponents, gym, bar restaurant, recovery centre and a number of small sided pitches cut into and tiered the far side from the main pitches to accommodate the youngsters .
I’m guessing a number of changes to the plans, permissions and financials have I assume have happened in the last few years.
I think at the time there were issues with what time the floodlights had to be turned off, double story buildings ect ect ect.
Again not sure what it all looks like now, apart from at the time there were concerns about the site not being big enough to house everybody. Plus we were spending fortunes renting dozens of different venues.
Just a personal view, but I guess the quarters will end up being 1st, 23’s, u18’s and the Girls one would assume. With some kind of limited availability of some smaller sided pitches like Exeter, Cheltenham, Oxford as was and of course the Wise campus. Just pure speculation on my part.

To stop people guessing the size and whether or not there would be room for everyone at The Quarters (formerly The Colony if checking) I’ve been back through the planning history. I’ll stick to acres as all previous discussion have been. The size is stated as low as 28 and a bit and as high as nearly 30. So whoever it was said 29 was right (in my book at least). I was wrong earlier saying 1 acre equals 1 pitch as it’s more like 1 and a half acres for full size and if you allow decent run off space then architectural design books suggest 2 acres. We therefore theoretically have room for 14/15 pitches BUT we also have to fit in other buildings etc which is why there were queries from the start about whether we have enough room. I’d expect 10 pitches plus buildings to be attainable subject to planning. Getting everyone there would seem to be tight and there isn’t any need at present so I don’t see we should be fretting over it. The Quarters do look great at present and are way above anything we’ve had before. Thanks to Wael they are also ours! UTG

UTG I heard a few weeks back from a reliable source that part of the land was going to be sold for housing to fund all the redevelopment at the quarters. Whether that's changed or not now with the new investment remains to be seen.

On that note a while back we submitted plans to square off the existing building didn't we? What happened to that did it get through planning ok?

I wasn't aware of that but I can promise you 100% that as of a few weeks ago the sale of some of the land at the quarters was being considered for housing to pay for the redevelopment. Like I said if things have changed since the new investment then so be it. Hopefully that is the case so we can maximize the whole site for our means.

On that note a while back we submitted plans to square off the existing building didn't we? What happened to that did it get through planning ok? We got planning permission for the extended clubhouse. Whether it actually gets built depends on how the re-think of provision at the Quarters goes. Both the present clubhouse and the design for the extension date from the Garner era.

If the layout is left as it is in the last planning permission, then I can only see room for one more full size pitch giving us four. If the proposed 3G pitch is rotated through 90 degrees then five should be possible. The original rugby layout had six full size pitches, but the reservoir makes that arrangement impossible. For comparison City have three pitches on land they own at their ‘high performance centre’, and I believe they rent a further five from QEH.

With the tapering of the plot and the reservoir, I agree 4 or maybe 5 full sized pitches at most. Plenty of room for an improved main building in time. Wonder if the future will include an all weather pitch and some form of indoor pitch. The space around the proposed all weather pitch looks wasted, we could use that wiser unless there are plans for that at a later stage.
