Spent 6 years working at Southampton under the likes of Harry Redknapp and reaching the FA Cup Final in his time there. Coles then followed Redknapp to Portsmouth, where he worked with internationals such as David James, Asmir Begović and Dean Kiely, plus of course also winning the FA Cup. He stayed at Portsmouth for a further two years under the management of Avram Grant, whom he then followed to West Ham United. If he's so great then why was Belshaw so poor last season? Anssi seems to be a full time coach so I'm sure he can look after Cox on his own. He's not a miracle worker and Belshaw's rushes of blood to the head and individual errors were inexplicable. Annsi is inexperienced and doesn't have anywhere near the contacts Coles will have built up over 30 years and I know he had his finger on the pulse regarding the best prospects coming through at the top level and promising talent coming through lower, including non-league GK's.

But what good as that achieved? Ward's been at the club since he was a youngster, Cox is only on loan and Hall wasn't even trusted in the EFL Trophy game, Coles contacts have brought one good permanent goalie to the club. Although if he's left us to return to Soton it could be he's just received a better offer anyway.

Who is now in charge of scouting and recruitment at the club? No one. We literally have jack happening - six weeks from the next transfer window. What's to worry ? Lyle Taylor to Wycombe is a potentially good signing btw. Hamer was right, we are the crazy gang.

Surely you would rather have the benefit of those contacts and knowledge of keepers coming through at various levels, than not have them? If he is leaving for a better offer then fair enough, as a club they need to evaluate whether his 30 years experience can be let go without anybody else brought in to replace that know how.

There's little point if we don't use them, I doubt he had any input in Belshaw's signing so what have all those contacts achieved in the last few years? I assume he's mainly employed as a goalie coach and I doubt we need him & Anssi just to coach Cox, perhaps somebody else as come to the same conclusion.

The new manager may have utilised his knowledge and contacts better, who knows, but I would certainly rather have that experience and knowledge at the club than not. He was only here for 8 months the first time, then spent 8 months away from the club, before his return a year or so ago. The constant instability must have an unsettling effect. Coles was mentoring Anssi with "ongoing performance development needs" and he supported the recruitment and attended matches, who will be performing these duties now?

I assume he was the senior coach and annsi his understudy. Coles doesn’t seem to last long many places does he? Spent 6 years working at Southampton under the likes of Harry Redknapp and reaching the FA Cup Final in his time there. I thought signing a goal keeper on a free from Harrogate Town shows that someone somewhere knew he was a good keeper. He still is. The rush of blood I saw was mainly due to playing three at the back and pushing them high up the pitch leaving a gap between the halfway line and keeper for a cheeky ball over the top. Exeter got us big time at home last year using that tactic.
