I think that was in the 80s or 90s. I was watching some sports news and Bristol Rovers were mentioned.(was living in Poland at the time) And to be precise Rovers fans. What I remember is that the Denim Army was the nickname given to Rovers fans because they were wearing blue denim shirts in protest against the price of the club football t-shirt.
What I am interested in is: Was that a big thing for Rovers fans? Was you one of the blue denim shirt wearing fans at the time? UTG

Never heard of this before. Sounds nonsense to me as I can't recall Rovers shirts being particularly expensive during the 80's & 90's.

When Rovers went back to the quartered shirts in the seventies they were more expensive. The reason behind it was the stitching of the quartered shirt. I remember my old man complaining.

The only think I can think of, is perhaps they got confused with Denim Rofes Barmy Army.
That was just before Big Mal had a go at Big Fat (apRon).
Whilst were on about clothes I'll get my coat!

If they keep protesting long enough it’ll be in fashion again.

It was a frightening site to see the tote army waking down the street denim shirts unbuttoned to the navel with the smell of brut33 put the fear of God into rival fans

Particularly the early to late 70s, 1972 Richard Allen's, character Joe Hawkins and Clockwork Orange very much contributed to the terrace fashion of the time.
