When the floodlights were first installed, they had a low and high output
When the ground was filling up and the players were out training, it was low output but when the teams came out if flicked to the higher output and was brighter.
This no longer happens, so my question - are the floodlights just on the low setting or high setting all the time?

Each small candle lights the corner of the dark.

Wish they would sort the massive shadow across the pitch. Does my head in.

Each small candle lights the corner of the dark. Sounds like a great opening line on a horror story 👍

I expect they’ll sort it when the east side gets extended.

I would not be surprised if visiting teams do not raise a complaint to the league. Be typical if Charlton did for example as bad sportsmanship. If lights were installed on the facade of the south stand surely that would also solve any light pollution complaints

The players have stated they don't even notice the shadow and I certainly don't once the game starts.

Both Portsmouth and Charlton had their best periods of football kicking towards the South Stand. And both scored kicking that way.

I suppose if the ref is happy with the shadow then it isn't a problem . Last night the officials managed to see an offside, which many supporters didn't see and cancelled out a goal. So although the shadow is annoying ,I don't suppose the club are going to do much about it if no one complains.

The regulations are clear, the only thing we don't know is i) what date we are required to do the assessment and ii) what the readings would be in the 'shadow' at the moment...

Depending on where the grid is set out from (possibly the goal line?) I’d suggest the shadow falls between two lines of the grid? We are plenty bright enough to pass the 500 Lux average, it’s only the 300 Lux minimum I’d have any concerns about.
(Yes I own a light meter and know how to use it after nearly 50 years of practice).
The perception at pitch level seems that there isn’t a problem and the club has said the lights on the front of the South Stand will sort it out when they are changed - the current ones are temporary (hopefully not the same temporary as the stand!). UTG!

I say this with hesitation, but surely we have done readings already to ensure we comply?? You would hope so - anyone seen a bloke with a tripod on the pitch before/after any of the recent games? Also I assume the general approach would be to get your test done several weeks before the report is due, to allow for works to rectify any issues - and I would guess these kind of things are normally done in the winter as there is more darkness at a better time of day to work. Still, this is Bristol Rovers! Depending on where the grid is set out from (possibly the goal line?) I’d suggest the shadow falls between two lines of the grid? UTG! The grid is 8 points wide by 11 points long so the gaps will be approx every 9m down the pitch. Either way it's done independently so I'm sure whoever does it would raise concerns about a specific area even if it's not captured in the 'official' grid...

Was it you that I was talking to? As it's almost word for word.

Tom Gorringe said that new lights are being installed soon to sort out the problem. Yeah, he told me that the issue would be addressed in the coming weeks. That was on Dec 1st,I think. Maybe we have differing views on "in the coming weeks"
