This is going to be quite the week as the mainstream news starts to cover Lord Alli's 'donations' properly. Whether the cost of using the penthouse in Covent Garden was correctly declared or not (it wasn't it was less than a quarter of the market value of renting a smaller one in the same building) there are far more important questions not yet answered:
Why do the dates Starmer was at Alli's penthouse line up better with the General Election than the GCSE timetables? He/they moved in three weeks after exams started, and he/they moved out well over three weeks after the last exam...when you compare it to a different timetable, he/they moved in five weeks before the General Election and moved out nine days after...
Why were the Covid and Queen's deaths broadcast costs (ie the donations for using the location/equipment) not declared? Because they would have been in breach of covid rules? Use of what is known to be effectively a professional broadcast studio costs well over the £300 declaration threshold so cost-wise they should have been declared.
If he was living there over the General Election period why did his nomination papers say he was living somewhere else? Nominations closed after he moved in, so even if the paperwork was submitted early it could and theoretically should have been amended.
Why is there is no declaration of the donation of the property during a regulated election period on either Starmer or Labour's Electoral Commission entries? He has admitted living and working there but the costs were not included in either declaration - and those declarations have a limit on the total costs allowed...
Now we learn that some transitional meetings between Labour and the Civil Service took place at Alli's properties. Whilst these meetings are often not held in civil service buildings, usually independent meeting rooms are used. Holding confidential talks in spaces owned by a large party donor is unheard of...
....passes for glasses seems a long time ago and I wonder what Lady Starmer thinks of all this? Also I wonder where she was living over the same period...
