im not saying their views are excruciating I’m saying the female voice is not imo particularly pleasant to listen to re - football commentary’s - that’s all ! im a woman, if that makes me a misogynist ( in this culture today ) then so be it 🤣! 💙Utg FWIW pp1, my wife can't stand female football commentators. As you say, the female voice is just not suited to it. However, political correctness is all. I’m not a Pc advocate ! 😜💙utg

After 36 years of married life,my ears have evolved to actually block the female voice, unless the words food and beer are in the sentence.

Just another 'Glen Hoddle' moment amongst many others.
Where, some will agree; some won't; and some won't have an opinion...some will care; some wont; some won't have an opinion.
As it's my post, I firmly believe politics and sport should be kept apart as much as they can. I believe it's important to be able to support someone professionally whilst disagreeing with their pov. And, vice versa.....but you feel free to agree. Or not. Or not have an opinion!

Must admit i hadn't heard that before.

Must admit i hadn't heard that before. The original suffrage movement were incredibly militant and used very similar tactics to those used by Just Stop Oil today. Women were banned from museums and art galleries unless they were accompanied by a man or had a letter vouching for them from their husband. It wasn't until the war when women paused their action and worked towards the war effort that government finally were forced to recognise the valuable contribution women had made.

Ah gotcha, so Robbie Savage commentating on Europa League games makes your blood boil as he's never played at that level? Or is it just when its women? Its fair enough you can't take someone seriously that hasn't played at the level, but where we disagree I think is that the mens game is a higher 'level' than the womens game. Different for sure, but the Lionesses played (and won) a Euros final in a packed Wembley. I don't see why that is 'lesser' than when the men played. Here's evidence of the gulf. www.cbssports.com/soccer/news/a-dallas-fc-under-15-boys-squad-beat-the-u-s-womens-national-team-in-a-scrimmage/This one always get trotted out. It was 6 years ago and the women's game has come on leaps and bounds since then. Considering it's also gone from a standing start since it was banned for so long! You're also missing my point, I'm not saying England women's would beat the men (they wouldn't) what I'm saying is the women getting to the Euros final is no less an achievement than the men. Have to be a great team, final was better attended than the men, but they managed to win theirs.

I'd love to listen to football commentary by a lovely, silky Welsh lady, or perhaps a Scot. No one wants a banshee any more than they would want Joe Pasquali calling a game.

Yes, i also saw the woman running on the track in front of a horse race and getting trampled to death, crazy and brave but she must have been truely motivated to the cause. My nan worked in a factory and she did say she was so glad when the war was over, for the obvious reasons but also she didn't have to work there anymore.

I don't think he's well and we should stop this thread. Think you might be right there. He’s on a bit of a crusade. Looks like he’s having a bit of a breakdown. Mentally weak ? Surely not. It's possible I suppose, but I expect it's more likely an angle to promote himself. Hence the Piers Morgan interview crap (someone who I'm sure he's called out several times).

Think his is a view that has been expressed and debated by many others on this forum and nationally by millions of football fans. There are probably many much more high profile figures in the game who share his views but know better than to express them publicly! I would not reccomend a career as a diplomat for JB! As for me, my personal preference is for male commentators as a rule, just find the tone and voice pitch more to my liking, having said that there are one or two female commentators who i enjoy listening to, indeed the lady who sometimes does our games is IMHO one of the better ones. As for the game itself well i watch and enjoy some of the Women's games and as JB says it is good to see it thriving BUT it is different and you have to accept that when you watch it, comparisons with the men's game is pointless . Agree- apart from your views on Sheridan Robbins, I think she is very poor at both commentating and her views on play! 💙Utg

Well maybe because on a thread about outdated views regarding women's entitlement to talk about football, your mention of finding them doing so excruciating leads people to maybe presume you hold those views too. Do you find women talking excruciating in any other context or is it just about football? Commentating is not just talking though is it, which is what Purdown was referring too. Pitch and tone change depending on whats happening. Women can talk about football as much as they like, then it's more down to content what you like or not .just like when you listen to men. I have to say regarding pitch and tone, the high pitched whiny noises about the mentally weak and Mike Jones is something I'm glad I don't have to listen to every week anymore. Whatever people think about female pundits and commentators, I've heard none speak the absolute gob sh**e and drivel that our former manager spewed out. "I told the opposition manager I could buy his club and sack him". Wtf....?
