Well thanks goodness for political correctness then. Women didn't used to be 'suited' to work, voting or other activities. Society moved on thankfully and will continue to For the record, my wife watched two quiz programmes this afternoon. Comperes were Stephen Mulhearn & Bradley Walsh. Can't stand either of them, voice or persona. Why is not liking a female football commentator any different? Because that's not what Barton said. It's not about liking certain styles or presenters, it was keep women out of mens football. That's the issue. I don't like John Bishop. By Bartons logic should I say I don't like male comedians? There will be female presenters and commentators that will be liked by some. But Barton will have you believe they have no place in mens TV presentations. It's totally bollocks and there no logical defense of his position.

Can't stand either of them, voice or persona. Why is not liking a female football commentator any different? Because we weren't talking specifically about an individual. Like I said, the complaints about women commentators aren't all specific and are brought up in a thread about our ex manager broadly stating that women shouldn't be listened to with regards to football.

Mentally weak ? Surely not. It's possible I suppose, but I expect it's more likely an angle to promote himself. Hence the Piers Morgan interview crap (someone who I'm sure he's called out several times). The difference between incapacity due to illness and incapacity due to an inability to reason. One is treatable This sounds oddly familiar π

Commentating is not just talking though is it, which is what Purdown was referring too. Pitch and tone change depending on whats happening. Women can talk about football as much as they like, then it's more down to content what you like or not .just like when you listen to men. I have to say regarding pitch and tone, the high pitched whiny noises about the mentally weak and Mike Jones is something I'm glad I don't have to listen to every week anymore. Whatever people think about female pundits and commentators, I've heard none speak the absolute gob sh**e and drivel that our former manager spewed out. "I told the opposition manager I could buy his club and sack him". Wtf....? Exactly, it's whats said not how they say it when talking about footy. As i said earlier commentating on a match is different though , not a problem with what they say more the delivery for me. However i do not want them sacked or not allowed to do it.

To be honest it probably does take some getting used to. I've watched football on TV for around 50 years and it's only very recently women have been allowed to do it. I remember listening to Brian Moore (who is still think was awful, sorry) etc and they really were no better than the males and females today. It's quite possible people will begin to prefer a female describing the action the more common it becomes (and yes, some are more preferable to me than others). People saying it doesn't sound right are either not yet used to it, or have other feelings about the validity of women doing it imo

Surely the issue here is not gender, it's quality of commentators and pundits. There are plenty of crap blokes on football shows who just talk cliched bollocks that insult your intelligence and sometimes they can't even talk English.
I don't want the expert opinion telling me "well he's got to be disappointed with that" or "he's got to take them chances"!
I want punditry that analyses tactics and the skill or mistakes that professionals are more likely to know and bring to the viewers attention that they would not have otherwise known.
Oh and VAR, cut the forensic analysis to establish if a toe nail was offside!
Some of these expert pundits you have to look up to find out who they are, that's men and women!
Too many are are awful even well known ex players, Michael Owen's gaffs are a standing joke!

Nice one. If I'm being perfectly honest I wasn't sure at first myself, but I've found the women as good if not better. Maybe they've had to work harder to be given the opportunity. I'm sure for most it will just be a case of adjusting, in the same way we did when women began presenting the news, became Doctors etc. It says a lot about football that it's taken this long for the women's game to take off or that there's even this discussion taking place.

It's just a shame he probably won't get the opportunity to go anywhere else so we could shake off the association a bit. What's the saying? If there's one thing worse than being talked about, it's not being talked about.
