I get that “he’s one of our own” and everyone wants him to be a success but I’m not 100% convinced by Ward yet. He’s a good shot stopper but doesn’t really dominate his box and looks weak under a high ball - still early days so no way I’m going to write him off. I think we need to bring in big, more experienced keeper and let them have a fair fight for the number 1 shirt. Out of the 4 goalies we've had since we were promoted back to L1 Ward appears to be the best (plus also as potential to improve) out of Balshaw, Balcombe and Cox. So signing a better keeper might be harder than it sounds. Having said that will PV release Ripley if they get relegated, still can't understand why we didn't make a move for Jamel Blackman as surely we could have beaten whatever Burton were offering I’d have thought there will be plenty of decent keepers out there who are currently sat on benches every week after losing battles to be number one at their current clubs - we should be able to pick one up to compete with Ward. At the moment Ward has potential - whether he progresses to the level everyone hopes remains to be seen. If we have aspirations to get promoted next season it’s way too big a risk to commit to Ward as first choice right now.

I'm not convinced the owners will be looking for promotion next season, the plan must be to take the next step which is challenging for a top 8(?) place. I guess that fits in ideally with Ward's own development!

My current thoughts on our first and (back up) for next season's squad. GK: Ward (New) RB: New (Hoole) CB: Taylor (New) CB: New - Baggott? (Connolly) LB: New (Gordon) CM: Conteh (Ward) CM: New (Finley) AM: Evans (McCormick/Brown) Wing: Thomas (Sinclair + New) Striker: New (Martin + New) 5 starters being new 6 existing is pretty big but not massive turnover. Defence and strikers the biggest task I can't see Wilson going anywhere this summer so he'll be at least a back up CB next season. Connolly is an odd one as surely he needs game time now if he's going to still be here next season? We're in danger of him and Wilson taking up squad places next season when neither seems really up to L1 football.

Brown has been a disappoinment especially with all the shenanigans and JB bigging him up.
Hopefully he gets the second year bounce a la Hinton, Campbell, Lescott etc who were much better after their initial season at the club.

With the option of another year for Josh Grant I would not take up the option once again he is injured again a total liability

Anyone think Scott Sinclairs “locked in” insta post suggests he has signed a new deal? Or is it just a concentration comment?!

Add to that the every present injury risk I think it's time to wish him well and say goodbye.

Matthew Cox Tristan Crama Elkan Baggott Harvey Vale Brandon Aguilera Harry Vaughan George Friend As we approach the end of the season and a few things become clearer, what are peoples thoughts on the OUT OF CONTRACT players. For me, definitely leaving will be Gibbons and Marquis Probably leaving will be Finley and Grant And probably offered new deals/options taken will be Martin, Sinclair and Hoole That leaves the following Rossiter - would offer a short term deal, but he may head elsewhere if he can get longer Gordon - I'm easy either way but a wouldn't mind a one year extension as our LB cover Greenslade - would definitely offer a 1+1 deal get him in pre-season games and early games, then loan to Conference for the season (with a recall) Jones - Really dont know, should have been breaking into the team by now. Is he going to get a chance? if not, no point in another loan season.

Why would Sinclair, assuming he's got at least another season left in him, stop us from having a serious go at promotion, he's been one of a handful of players who's been consistent performer in recent weeks. MT seems to have a similar view to me! www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/matt-taylor-offers-scott-sinclair-9225519

I’d be looking to get some of those blue players off the books too
Connolly at least another loan out, with an option to sell.
Lawrence - should have player much more by now
Gordon - never convinced
Grant - always injured
Brown - not done it and I bet he’s in decent money

No idea who'd take Brown off our hands and face a potential fans revolt, you sense like KB in the past we're stuck with him.
