Say what we are saying is that despite being desperate for an extra striker option in January (when there was still an outside chance of pushing for that final play off place) that because there wasn’t optimum value for money we were ok to just write off the rest of the season? Is this a football team we are following or is the return of investment from the signing of one striker more important than winning matches and picking up points?

it was always going to be a uphill struggle when you start a season with just one number 9. Barton cluttered up our midfield could he not have brought in a couple of young decent strikers instead , he had all summer to sign them . I know not signing JCH was a blow , but he may not have done any better than Martin anyway. Barton should have made sure we had a more potent attack than we did, that was a failing. In theory the front 2 would have been JCH & Marquis, who many more strikers would you expect us to sign if we're only playing one upfront? If it was that big an issue why did MT bring in three more midfielders but no strikers in January? Not forgetting Loft, so that would have been three.

The reality is that we could take a risk and buy a striker in the hope that he will, push us towards a promotion place - but we know that we will have to pay over the odds both in terms of fees and wages because everyone wants that player. We are then stuck with that guy for 2.5 years using up our future budget all for the off chance that we will make the play offs with a team that overall is not good enough. Surely the sensible move is to wait and keep the finds available for when better options are available and we get someone who fits exactly the style of person that the manager wants with the least compromise. It does mean that we miss out on promotion this year but the owners have made it clear that they did not expect promotion this year and as gasheads well surely we know the folly of knee jerk reactions and poor quality January signings

Do we then go back to the loan market for a academy player as a desperate signing?the ambition to progress when we had a chance got pulled in January when we were on a bit of a winning streak and still in touching distance

I think we were confident / hopeful of signing Smith or similar. Worth the money as would also provide a possible later sell on. If we couldnt get the top 2 targets, then do we risk spinning the wheel on another? Guess we decided not. Should have had a loan striker lined up instead of Vaughan, that was an error but no surprise with no recruitment team in place.

Sometimes it can be a numbers game. We are desperately short up top and another option would be welcome especially if it adds to the all round team game.
Essentially what Gasify has highlighted is that you'll likely only sign strikers that havent been good enough at their previous club or they have had a stuttering season and theyll hope to kick start it in the winter.
Someone like Joe Edwards at Luton was a nailed on decent loan signing having got 11 in 25 for Col U last season and had Luton not been promoted, would have probably played a lot of Championship Football this year. Its an Elliott Anderson type of signing for them and its why we need a decent footballing department that is club oriented not manager oriented which is what we had and why we have suffered with our recruiment.
Isn't it funny how our best players, Aaron Collins and Anthony Evans were recruited by a footballing department sacked by JB..??!!
Facts are, crap squad which needed more components in Jan than we could physically sign.

I wanted some permanent signings rather than loans in January - the summer overhaul is going to be so big that it would surely have been beneficial to get some signed and settled in before more arrive in the summer? As it stands I suspect next season will be written off as “developmental”.

Very concerning view from the Owner some time ago and his desire to have more younger Players next Season. Does this mean we may be setting a course for repeating the Garner Season which was very much Wael's vision. The Owner should have a look at recent history and formulate a creditable plan going forward. There is a worry that significant cuts to the budget may see us back in Div 2. We desperately need Players who really want to play for a whole Season and beyond. What has happened to Ryan Jones? Many of us saw this car crash coming indicating that Wael and the new Owners are not a good fit for BRFC in so far as selecting a decent Manager and having the right plan in place.
