Great interview with a great servant of the club. Gave up so much of his personal life to be with us.
Some on here have been suggesting he wanted out and that MT and him had fallen out but apparently they were talking new contracts but the ownership weren't interested in following it up. Said his best football has been under Taylor.
Makes some on here look a little silly if true...

You do have to wonder what their intentions are, significantly cut the playing budget or just clear out all the "Scouse Mafia".

Does that mean the manager and recruitment team aren’t deciding the make up and balance of the squad? Remind me, how did that work out for successive managers at Chelsea? I know it’s their money but let football people make the football decisions for goodness sake. I admit I have not been enthused by the idea of a team of MT hard working journeymen but saddling him with a load of players he can’t work with has got to be worse.

I can’t image Sam was after more money, maybe a new deal on the same wages? But if Matt wanted him, he and only he should make that shout. We are talking a great determined player with leadership qualities, and someone who is already in tune with the football club and manager. If the owners took that decision away from the manager I’d be very disappointed.

If the rumours are true about the cut in the playing budget then we wouldn't be able to offer him the same wages?

Love the guy but let’s not pretend letting him go at this point wasn’t the right call.

Love the guy but let’s not pretend letting him go at this point wasn’t the right call. That depends on who we replace him with and how he performs next season. When he's on his game Finley offers a damn sight more than Sinclair who'll still be here next season

Wasn’t a fan of Finlay. He did always put the effort in but would pick Liam sercombe over Finlay all day long ( if we were to go for that age)

If the rumours are true about the cut in the playing budget then we wouldn't be able to offer him the same wages? The rumour was he was offered a deal on reduced terms. He was classy I thought in the interview, no criticism of anyone and explained the tail off in form due to the uncertainty.

I’m of the opinion that our form suffered noticeably when he wasn’t playing, especially at the end of the season. But obviously AS Junior knows a lot more about football than any of us (including MT), so was absolutely dam’ right to offer him less money or whatever . . . I think we will miss him next season.

On one of MT interviews, he did say that we would find out about what was happening in the summer.
Maybe this is it, what if they tried to renegotiate all contracts?
It certainly would explain the drop in form and players not looking that interested.

Junior may not know as much about football, as MT but he probably knows more about business. He understands wage budgets and making sure that the right business decision is taken rather than letting the heart rule the head. He understands that we can’t have all that we want and realised that least year we carried a lot of passengers who were sidelined with injuries - and that must stop. Maybe we will miss Sam and MT did want him but that was simply because is a certainty - he knows that when fit he will do a good job. Perhaps Junior has more confidence in George Friend than MT to come up with a younger option who will be part of the future and follow the clubs strategy of going for youth and a more dynamic team. Perhaps MT was asked to choose and he did so and passed the comment that “ I would love to but…..” lots of maybe’s , lots of theories.

He seemed to be constantly out injured in his last season with us and last year was on the bench quite a bit for Cheltenham. Great in his day but that’s now gone. A top chap though and see him about Emerson’s Green quite a bit.

It's strange that, following this interview SF has suddenly become an icon of amazing footballer we can't do without. I'm pretty sure that most of last season the general view of this forum was that he was a waste of space who could only pass sideways or backwards and was always getting booked and suspended. But now that it is hinted that MT wanted him to stay but the owners wouldn't pay enough to keep him, it's another great chance to criticise the owners! FWIW I would have preferred him to stay as a squad player.

When SF played well the team played well, unfortunately the games he did that last season were fairly limited, hopefully there's better and younger (& cheaper?) players out there. Getting a decent attacking CM must be one of the big tasks, even biggest, this summer for the new recruitment team.

Great servant and on his day top quality no matter the division, but 100% was the right time to move him on.
Unfortunately not heard anything positive about the new owners. Can't see it ending well.

Why is there very little good to say about the owners? Perhaps because they know nothing about football and yet are trying to run the thing both on and off the pitch. So far what have they brought us? Slightly bigger stadium with more seats but reduced the crowds significantly by dropping the standard of the football watched and pretty well cut our chances of attacking by selling Collins and not replacing him- that alone makes me doubt their intentions. If they sell Evans that will give them a substantial bit of their money back. Remember as well that Wael brought them in because he could not afford to take us forward. I am yet to be convinced that this new lot wont take us backwards reducing the budget can only lead to tears and if they think you can get to the Championship with lower paid players then pull the other leg. Look at the teams who go up and generally their budget is well above ours.Has Matty Taylor got a son? Perhaps if he has he should bring him in to select the team because that is what the owner has done. A toy for his son but when will he throw the toys out of the pram?
