if we could get Sercombe for the right price then i would think that he would be a good signing and it has nothing to do with the fact that he played for us before .
MT has alwaready made it clear that we will have a smallish nucleus of higher gaulity first team players and the the rest of the squad will be made up of untested raw players. This is obviously a decsion based on maximising the reach of the wage budget and at the age that he is one would expect that Sercombe will not attract top wages even though he was Cheletenham's player for the year. He lives in Bristol and so the promise of being able to get involved in coaching youngsters - with an eye on his own future- may well interest him.
There is a very real danger that we will lose Evans in this transfer windown and unless we have someone already in mind that we will lose our one and only midfield player who can hit a screamer - an ability which Sercombe posseses. He also has a very cool head in front of goal which has been sadly lacking with anyone except for Chris Martin
Whilst he has played regulalrly 90 minutes for Cheltenham we would seem to be ok for midfield players and with someone lioke Sercs it would mean that Ward could be rested and protected as he seems susceptible to the rough and tumble of a League season and he could effectively share that position with Sercs.
Sam Finley was released and maybe that was because we had someone ele in mind to fill in the fringe midfield role that he occupied and someone who does not live in the nroth and train away for part of the week.
So in summary it would be a yes to Sercs from me and the fact that he has turned down Chelteham's offer of a contract i believe means that he has already been offered something better elsewhere .

Could we not just have one thread where every player that’s played for us in the last 50 years can be listed rather than another tedious WYHHB thread each time ?

Very much depends on wages but both could be good pick ups as we look to rebuild a squad.

Neither match the brief of a younger side.
Thanks for the memories, but not for me.

I would like to see Liam Sercombe and Billy Bodin return. Two highly experienced players who would be of benefit for the club!

Time to look forward not back. Who's the next Sercombe, the next Bodin? They are clearly out there, some might even be in the squad or the youth setup already.

Yes will take Sercombe back. He scores goals even in poor sides ( 11 last season ). NO for Bodin too injury prone .

Neither match the brief of a younger side. Thanks for the memories, but not for me. Seems to be a bit of a mismatch with the brief though. New owners want a young team yet sign MT who did nothing but bring in a bunch of old injury prone players at Rotherham. However Conteh is a good start, so it will be interesting to see the type of players we get in next

I wouldn't really want Sercombe back now. We had Sercs in his prime (27-30) and he was a decent player. However, he's now 34 and very much in the twilight of his career. He might have 1 more year in him but he won't be as good as the player we released 4 years ago.
I actually wouldn't be against signing Bodin. He's made a total of 106 appearances for Oxford in all competitions over the past 3 years, so he's averaged 35 games per season. That's not bad, and some of the games he missed were simply due to not being picked. He made 41 appearances in the season just gone and scored 9 goals. He's 32 now so probably not the same player we had 6 years ago but he still averages a goal every 3 or 4 games and Oxford fans speak very highly of him. I'd be happy if we offered him a 1 or 2 year deal.

Yes to Sercs (not as first choice but would be a good squad pick-up) but no to injury-Prodin unfortunately.

TBH I would take either of them back both on 1 year contracts as both were good servants of the club previously. It's OK the owners planning a side with the youth but you need also need a good balance of youth and experienced pros in the side. Look how it ended after Tony Craig left the club Kilgour was never the same player IMO
