A new monthly mag, instead of match day programmes.
I think I like the idea, let's see what the first one is like.

MODS: Please add to the "What can we moan about now" thread. Will save time in the long run.
Surprised that print media is not dead, hope it succeeds in filling the gap left by a matchday programme.

It should actually have an agony aunt column hosted by Irene, and a complaints column run by Captain Gas.

I feel more likely to pick up a copy of a monthly mag then I would a match day programme. Depends on the features/content

I'm gutted, but I often feel like a dinosaur in these times.
It was always part of the match day tradition for me but understand less and less people bought the Pirate.
Maybe the SC will produce an alternative for the old fogeys like me!
Here's hoping the new magazine is decent.

Haven't bought a programme for a couple of years but found those a good read as was full of info for football fans regardless of club allegiance. Not sure what the away fan take up was. If low then a similar bulked up monthly mag may not be a bad thing. Maybe a page for ITKers 🙄

Call me whatever you like but i always enjoyed the programme especially as in the recent past The Rover's one was very highly regarded, always part of the match day ritual , nowt against the new venture and just have to run with it.

Cricket is slowly heading the same way. No scorecards at the Oval for Surrey v Gloucester on Tuesday, other than a few in the pavilion. That said, there were scorecards at GCCC's home games, and at Lord's.
I went to two prem games last season, at Fulham and Tottenham, and both managed to produce respectable programmes. I suspect they don't make much/any money out of it but it is providing a service to customers. If we are going to scrap the programme then that is a shame.

Surprised the match day programme has not been replaced with an online version downloadable for a nominal fee.
Will reserve judgement on new venture but last time we did this was Pirate News around 2000/2001 which eventually disappeared.
In fairness match day programme has been appalling for last season or two which has probably lead to the current decision.
At least I don’t have to find another box for this seasons editions which will certainly please my wife.

I mostly like getting them as a memento for the big games eg your Dagenhams and Scunthorpes. A digital version isn’t the same.
Every time I tried to get one last season they were sold out even when I went looking as early as just gone 2.
If they’re basing the change based on demand they’d be better off trying to actually sell some before giving them the chop.

Got to say, credit where it is due, it looks brilliant.
Clear crisp pictures, lot to read, lots of info.
Well done.
Mind you, why were the programme sellers not selling them? Lony traipse to the superstore from the South Stand. Many won't bother.

Been collecting programmes when we go to the away fixtures forever; home not so much, have mates who collect all the of known home programmes, one is missing circa 10 BRFC home programmes, his head is in a tail spin. Football clubs, in general do not give a **** about that, programmes are being phased out. I guess that what is called progress, hmm.

Still reading it - a few articles at a time before doing something else and looking at it again.
There is a lot of content.
I don't think it would be "out of date" if this was bought at the end of the month, as there is so much in it.
Definitely would recommend to programme collectors.
Last season the programme was £3.50 for an half hearted effort with about 10 articles, shoddy mistakes, "filler" poor quality pictures with no captions and an overkill of advertising.
Pay less than twice as much, get bigger, better quality paper, bright clearer pictures, a better design, plus 50+ pages to read and lots of club info.
Would be perfect to buy before an away trip to Carlise on the train, as it will keep you entertained for hours.
Luckily, I noticed that we play at home in the first of the month about 3-4 times this season and 2 Nov is FA cup Rd One, so the magazine should be the perfect accompliament on a match day.
To paraphrase, a magazine, by any other name, is still a programme.

Is it possible to get a suscription for this, mailed to your home? Like most other magazines.
I'd be interested if so. Could be a way to boost the readership.

Give it time and it'll be online only, like most other publications.

Jamie has advised that the magazine will now be available from the "programme" and 50/50 sellers on matchdays.
If you haven't got your copy yet, I can really recommend it. Lots to read, good pictures and info and not many adverts.
I think it will be a good alternative for the programme collectors out there.

Thanks for posting the link Topper.
Just subscribed and received the August copy - and I'm very impressed by the range and depth of the content. Covers the whole club - including youth, Gas Girls and Community Trust in great detail. Hopefully the high standard of the match previews will be equalled by the match reports as we move through the season. As an exiled long-term supporter this is a great way to keep in touch with the club. Good value in my book.
My only small grumble is the huge number of typos ("Wale Al Qadi", "Keith Curlew", England flags for Scottish and Irish players, for example) - maybe the first issue was put together in a hurry but it does need to be more tightly edited in my opinion.

I liked how Graham Ricketts "erased" his cap when it surely should have been "wears" after the SC presentation!
